AUSSIE 15 X 8 BALL OVERS MATCH

With darken skies around the ground at the start the decision was to change from a Twenty20 match to Aussie style 15 overs of 8 balls.

God it was hard work especially for the Hythe bowlers whose 8 balls become 10 with a few wides.

In a game played in good spirit Hythe batted first and scored 139 for 5. Longwick got the winning runs with the second ball of the final over.

Toss Won by : HYTHE

Robbie James captain for the night won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hythe opened with 'The Guru' Tongs and Bambi Guymer hoping for a good start, but after hitting the first ball for 2 Tongs was very well caught and bowled of the fourth ball.

Not the start Hythe wanted and against some tight bowling from Ellworthy Hythe struggled to only 19 from the first four overs. ( remember 8 ball overs )

In the fifth over Guymer was well caught in the deep by Warren for 11 and 2 overs later Moore was also caught by Warren to leave Hythe 32 for 3 off 6 overs. Enter 'Salad' Grobler, just his sort of game.

Next over Hythe lose another wicket 37 for 4, Tandy Singh making his debut caught for 3.' couldn't see it he said ' where have we heard that before.

Mike Bowman came into join Grobler and at last the runs began to flow. The pair put on 85 in 7 overs with Grobler hitting 60 which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Grobler was bowled in the penultimate over with the score on 126 for 5 - a good effort.

At the end Hythe finished on 139 for 5 with Robbie James 9 not out and Mike Bowman 41 not out which included 4 fours.

The vibes from the Longwick camp was that was far to many for them to chase but quite rightly James wanted to refrain from using Grobler if he could.

Lee Powell opened from the top end and bowled to tidy overs for 11 moving the ball away with his swing.

Robbie James opened from the bottom end and had little luck. His 3 overs went for 36. Both Longwick openers looked in good nick as they moved to 53 for 0 off only 4 overs.

Punchey Mills replaced Powell at the top end only to go for 22 off 2 overs. Score 82 for 0 off 8.

Chiverton came on from the top end and with his fifth ball A.Morton was well caught by Mills in the deep.

But there was to be no collapse.

J.Morton came into join Fuller and both Chiverton and Bowman found the 8 ball overs tough going.

The 100 came up in the 9th over and with 3 overs to go Longwick needed 15 to win.

Bambi came on from the bottom end and bowled very tightley with only 6 coming from his first over.

In his second over Hythe got their second wicket when Guymer himself got Fuller caught and bowled for 47.

Guymers 2 overs went for an impressive 11 runs taking the game to the final over.

Mike Bowman was asked to bowl it but the first to balls went for boundaries and game over.

Longwick had won by 8 wickets - a good way to start their 3 match tour.
