HYTHE XI vs GREENWICH ZEEBRAS

Monday 25th August

Played @ Jones Lane, Hythe

Skipper Pagey Sets Up Hythe Win

James PAGE 58	James CARSE 3-10

Hythe's opponents for the Bank Holiday Fixture Greenwich Zeebras from London all turned up in club blazers, trousers and caps to the amazement of our Chairman Woody - so watch out guys next tour its a trip to Marks and Sparks. Belly get the fine book out as the two most senior players turned up late leaving Pagey to walk out and toss up. Pagey himself produced the innings of the game 58 including 1x6 and 8x4's.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Greenwich won the toss and surprisingly invited Hythe to bat first. We asked the question why - too much drink and a bad Sunday result against Sparsholt.

The Guru opened the batting with Matt Young only for him to be out first ball to the appreciation of the smiling skipper. The next hour was snooze time as Mike Bowman and Matt Young found it difficult to get going against some wayward bowling. Bowman picked up to hit 8x4's and a six in his 39before getting caught off Harris - Hythe 69 for 2. Young was next to go caught off Bruce after hitting 15 singles. Stovell came in at 5 to join Last only to walk back with a duck. Hythe 74 for 4.

Page in next second scoring shot his first ever 6 and in a positive mood. Last next out for 21 (inc 3x4's). Mills didn't last long out for 7 = Hythe 129 for 6. Page contiued with the boundaries without little support After hitting his third fifty of the summer he was stumped for 58 (inc 7x4's 1x6) Hythe finished their 40 overs innings on 195 for 9 which was always going to be a tough ask for the London boys.

Greenwich with 3 regular cricketers and the rest very occasional cricketers got off to a decent start - losing their first wicket at 25. The rest followed at regular intervals with skipper Bruce 46* carrying his bat through the whole innings. Spin twins James Carse 3-10 and Luke Mills 3-18 did most of the damage as the visitors were bowled out for 110.

The game was played in a very good spirit but sadly the Greenwich boys all shot off without having a drink at the end of the game which is not Tour eticate. Makes you wonder why you work your socks off getting a side out , prepare teas, and poor Woody spendng four hours on the pitch just to give them a game.
