Bowman's Men Finish 4th & Promotion
Hythe & Dibden 2nd XI Vs TROJANS III
at Stoneham Lane 28.08.07
Hythe 2nd XI beat Trojans this afternoon at Stoneham Lane by 19 runs to finish a fine season in fourth place and earn themselves promotion in the new Hampshire set up next season.
Hythe won the toss and elected to bat. After the early loss of Matt Howe in the first over, Sean Tongs (41) and Wayne Effeny (19) made cautious progress until Effeny was bowled in the 21st over with the score on 65. Shortly afterwards Tongs departed and a partnership of 62 from Mike Bowman (36*) and Gary Howe (42) in 10 overs accelerated Hythe’s score to 132 by the 34th over. A Further 51 runs were added in the final 8 overs, Mike Bowman being ably supported by Rich Bunce (9) and Pete Stevens snr. (13*). Hythe finished on 183 for 6 from 42 overs.
In reply Trojans were always slightly ahead of the asking rate for the first half of their innings but were steadily losing wickets as Hythe mixed some excellent deliveries in amongst some indifferent bowling. However the introduction of spin turned the game in Hythe’s favour as Ian White (12 overs 2 for 44) and Pete Stevens snr. (6 overs 3 for 35) reduced Trojans to 118 for 8 after 32 overs but despite a fighting ninth wicket partnership of 37 which came to an end with a suicidal run out, Trojans were finally all out for 164 in the 41st over, Hythe winning by 19 runs.
