The form of the five Academy players who started the game promises a bright future, but the immediate task is to get some league points to stay in North One East.
We are in second bottom place and face the side below us next week. Huddersfield YMCA are now on minus 29 points after their deduction for going into administration at the beginning of the season.
This week  on a heavy Preston Avenue pitch made worse by steady rain we got off to a strong start forcing a series of penalties in the Park half and as we closed in on the line opted for a scrum.
Skipper Ryan Painter went on the short side with Owen Westhorp squeezing in at the corner – Zac Southern’s conversion was just wide.
Park came back with a penalty and then went ahead in dubious circumstances.
Painter and Max Tennant tackled winger Howard Stock in the corner. They were quick to complain when referee David Young awarded a try with even Park officials and supporters admitting the ball had not been grounded.
However, there was no doubt about Stock’s second try five minutes later. He glided through the midfield without a hand being laid on him to go in beside the posts and give his side a 15-5 lead.
That was increased to 20-5 at the break courtesy of a penalty kick to the corner and a catch and drive which saw Marc Cook driven over.
We began the second half as strongly as we had in the opening minutes -  Connolly showing his class with a dummy which fooled experienced Park playmaker Ash Smith. Southern’s conversion bringing the score to 20-12.
Park replacement Ethan Wilson went to the sin bin after a series of penalty awards against the home side, but our numerical advantage was only to last two minutes.
Skipper Painter was too quick to come round as the ball was held at the back of a scrum and despite retreating quickly was yellow carded.
Park seized their chance choosing again to kick to the corner. This time hooker Adam Hay peeled away from the resulting to maul to dive over with Michael Grove’s conversion giving his side a 15 point lead.
Our new flanker pairing of Ethan Ledington and Ben Armstrong continued to tackle way above their weight, but as the pitch deteriorated Park used their bulkier forwards to better effect.
They went further ahead when fly half Smith kicked through with winger Grove winning the foot race to touch down, and with just one minute left they forced another pushover try to complete the scoring.
With a gap opening between the bottom three we will need to look for maximum points next week when seemingly alrredy doomed Huddersfield visit Brinkburn.
