West started and finished like a train at Hare Lane but, in between, Chester scored a series of outstanding tries to make it seven wins from seven.
On this form, the league leaders will take some stopping at the top of the table but West were far from disgraced.
The side put plenty of pressure on in the second period but did not get the rewards their play deserved.
West arrived at Hare Lane showing a number of changes to the side which battered away at another Cheshire team the previous Saturday but could not knock the Lymm door down.
Out in the backs were Colin Cheslin, Scott Butcher, Adam Larkin and Andy Foreman, while Stephen Stockdale missed out up front because of illness.
Darren Thomas and Greg Edwards came into the backline while there was a change in position for Stuart Waites and Gareth Foreman.
West were out of the blocks in Usain Bolt fashion, taking the game to Chester straight from the drop-kick start by fly-half Waites.
Lively West raced straight into the home 22 via a break by Waites and a run down the right wing by Andy Cheslin. A try looked on for Andrew Davies but the second row was tackled just a few metres short.
It would be the closest West would come to scoring in the first half.
Tom Seddon raced through for Chester’s first try on eight minutes after swift handling in the backs. Liam McGovern converted and added a long-range penalty.
Lock Ross White celebrated being featured as the front cover of the programme with Chester’s second try after more good home handling.
McGovern’s conversion looked an excellent one and West touch judge Tony Wilson seemed to think so and duly raised his flag. The home linesman thought otherwise and referee McGaffney ruled it had missed.
Chester finished the half with a bang, scoring three times in five minutes. All three were beauties, captain Andrew Moore, scrum-half Joshua Leach and winger Tomn Evans finishing off great attacks.
It looked like being a landslide but West dug in.
They started the second half strongly but despite going through upteen phases and winning several penalties they could not score.
Chester were not as dangerous but when they did reach the away 22, Davies made an excellent tackle to halt Ben Latham.
Davies put in a tremendous shift for West and was unlucky not to score at the end, Mr McGaffney ruling he had not grounded the ball.
Jon Boatman’s comeback was a major positive for West while young Luke Mallinson came on for his debut as a sub.
There was more injury woe, however, with Tom Dixon limping off with a hamstring strain.
