On 12 mins new prop Foster drove to the line but lost it as he reached to put the ball down.
On 17 mins a great scrum from the Bucks turned the ball over and a penalty was awarded to them. Ryan Painter took a quick tap to launch a counter attack. Several pairs of hands later Painter received the ball back to stroll over (5-0).
On 25 mins the pack once again pushed Mowden off their own 5 metre scrum to clear a dangerous situation. This was to be a recurring theme as the Bucks constantly dominated and caused continual turnovers or disruption to the Visitors 8 and 9 as they tried to clear the ball from their own scrums.
So Half Time arrived with the home team having played against the strong wind but
5 - 0 to the good.
At this point West lost Painter and there was to be a steady stream of players leaving the field for both teams during the 2nd period.

5 mins into the new half West scored again. From a 5m scrum the ball was moved to the midfield backs. Martin Todd broke the defensive line to feed the looping No 10 Brendan Baggs who fell over the line. Luke Mallinson converted (12-0).
After 12 mins another backs move found winger Foster in space and he gained good ground, stayed on his feet and fed the ball back inside. A breakdown occurred and the ball was moved on through some hard driving by the forwards for 17year old Tim Blades to dive over (17-0).
The weather, the fact it was the first game of the season and the disruption caused by the injuries meant that the match became somewhat disjointed. Lots of endeavour came to nothing as the game petered out.
Unfortunately one of the home subs managed to get himself sent off somewhat stupidly.

A good start for the Bucks, without hitting the heights of last season. Some of the new youngsters showed up very well, particularly Blades and his fellow back rower Lee Maddison. The scrum was excellent and in patches so was the rugby.
So roll on next week and another tough home fixture against Middlesbrough.
