They arrived with a handfull of changes in the backs, after their extra time mid-week cup defeat at Hull, and their No 8 stranded after his car broke down on the M1.

But they fought hard throughout and their pack won them a fair share of possession - until those floodgates opened.

We started nervously but Gareth Foreman soon settled things down with some strong running down the left wing which saw him shrug off three defenders to go in at the corner. Stu Waites stepped up and confidently stroked the conversion to get the home crowd raising their voices.

The big crowd only had to wait another six minutes to see Stephen Stockdale finishing off  some pressure on the line with a trademark burst from five metres.

This time Waites missed, but he added a penalty on 26 minutes and, thanks to a lot of resilience from Cleck, 15-0 was the half time score.

The visitors still fancied their chances and were still in the game until Darren Thomas got in the act. Dash had come on for Stu Waites after 48 minutes with Jon Norris also limping off to be replaced by Carl Miller.

Thomas got onto the scoresheet on 59 minutes seizing on a smart pass from Gareth Foreman from a quickly taken penalty to sprint fully 70 metres to go in under the posts - much to the delight of the nine French student bricklayers he'd invited to the game.

Gareth Foreman converted and the floodgates opened with those Frenchmen appreciating the next four tries - all executed with the free flowing interpassing that they're used to seeing at home.

The tries were all scored on the right wing with Adam Larkin finishing off on 62 minutes after Gareth Foreman made the space. He then added the conversion.

Four minutes later it was Gav Robinson who was the last man on the ball after the best move of the game [again converted], then Andrew Cheslin was sent in on 67 minutes, with Tom Dixon on hand just three minutes later to glide over the line. He took the conversion himself but missed.

Cleck lost their prop Andy Piper to the bin on 74 minutes and there was still time for Andrew Foreman to get his try out wide.

The visitors got the try their spirit deserved right at the death when Martin Woodhead went in at the corner.
