Tougher opposition this week in the shape of fellow Level Six side Rochdale, while the Stags took on a Heughers squad bolstered by the fact that Rovers first team didn't have a game ....
The local interest in the derby game meant that, unusually, the second team pitch had a far bigger crowd on the touchline and they enjoyed a close game which the visitors just shaded 24-21.
Unfortunately, ref Tim Hilditch took a bang on the head and he had to retire to be replaced by Doc English. Hopefully, they have both made a swift recovery.
On the other pitchTim's son Will (left) made his first appearance of the season - celebrating with two excellent finishes including one from a deft kick from Zac Southern.
It was also good to see the return of CeeJay Beales on the other wing, and he was back to his elusive and speedy best.
Adam Coates also notched two in a game in which both sides looked to get the ball out wide at every opportunity.
We ran out 39-24 winners with some over zealous passing gifting Rochdale a couple of late interceptions to go home with four tries of their own.
Our other try scorers were Alex Key from a pushover - his first for the club - and close range finishes from the tireless Andrew Rollins and an early score for Sam Miller.
Sadly, big Sam's pre-season was curtailed by a knee ligament injury which could threaten his appearance in the first league game.
Good Start Continues

An encouraging start to the season with some excellent support play. Sad to see big Sam go down with a knee injury, hopefully some rest and physio will result in a quick recovery
