It came when Stu Waites' second half restart kick didn’t go ten metres, and Michael Hogan was penalized for not binding at the resultant scrum.
Dinnington had been handed the initiative with half Jonny West taking the opportunity to put up a high kick into the corner. Luke Mallinson fought for the dropping ball with winger Marlon Miller - it was the latter who seized on the resulting loose ball to send an inside pass to No 8 Will Marshall.
He galloped in to score under the posts, with Referee Nigel Dickinson ignoring vociferous West claims that it had been the Dinnington winger who had knocked the ball forward.
It was massive blow to a young West pack who had defended so well in the first half against an experienced, and hard working, home side who knew how to use the slope to their advantage.
They also knew how to defend against it, and as much as we huffed and puffed they were only really able to mount any pressure in the home line in the last few minutes of the game.
We lost fly half Zac Southern after twenty minutes to a calf injury, which saw the arrival of Andrew Foreman at scrum half and a switch to fly half for Stu Waites with Darren Thomas dropping back.
The half was largely played out in midfield with both sides stifling each other’s ambitions, and when play did open up it was invariably brought to a halt by the referee’s whistle.
Ches had already had an eventful game having been yellow carded just before the break, when frustration over two claims for tackling without arms went unheeded by Mr Dickinson.
Unwisely, the centre reacted with a late tackle of his own and deserved a yellow. But there was surprise that there was no punishment for the two home players who responded with a flurry of punches.
In the second half Dinnington added to their score with penalty after 47 minutes, and another after 70 when Darren Thomas received a severe cut to his ear while being penalised for holding on.
With Chris Atkins already injured, and Dan Boatman having to play in the centre, an indignant Dash had to continue with a heavily bandaged head.
It continued gto be hard fought with hardly any flowing rugby, but we had shown one bit of rugby enterprise when we ran the ball from behind our own line on the hour mark.
Stu Waites began the move which saw of all the backs involved as they moved into the opposition half. However, a last ditch tackle on Peter Youll as the ball came back into the middle saw a knock on by the West man.
We did mount some pressure in the closing stages in an effort to get the score, which would have given us a deserved bonus point. Unfortunately, the final play saw Scott Butcher bundled into touch at the corner flag as he went for the score..
