You have to give great credit to Kirkcaldy. They had some cry-offs on Friday night but 17 players and their coach insisted on setting off at 8 a.m. to play what was only a friendly fixture ...

They played the game, presented one of their players with a birthday cake, and then headed back on the long journey no sooner had he blown out the candles.

In between they played some decent rugby showing touches of class in cerain positions and producing some great ball recycling.

But they were always chasing the game after Gareth Eddy galloped over after two minutes - closely followed by Adam Coates who finished off a great run by Liam Bailey.

Plenty of players from all of our senior teams got some time on the pitch with Eddy, Ryan Painter and Stu Waites catching the eye throughout.

Sadly, there wwre some knocks for the likes of Jon Norris so, together with work commitments and holidays we are completely unable to raise a front row for this Wednesday's cup game at Westoe - so the game is off.

West Try scorers: Eddy [2], Coates, Zac Southern , Thomas, Wates [2], Taylor.

I agree well done to Kirkcaldy for coming down. Good bunch of lads and some decent players. It was good for our lads to have a decent run-out and to see the quality of the likes of Eddy and Chunky who will strengthen the squad this season. Waitersy, Ryan Painter and Coatesy were among others who stood out I thought.

Well done West and a big thank you to Kirkcaldy for making the long journey south.The game was played in a truly friendly spirit and both me and Carole enjoyed the match.I also enjoyed one of the real ales left over from the Beer Festival. A super pint and a real snip at only £1 a pint.

why is there an irritant football advert on a rugby site ???
what's going on - I thought this would be the one place that adverts for those brain-dead cretinous nancy boys wouldn't be found
