But winning at Driffield is something we have never done before, and another vital four points were secured. True, it should have been five, but credit must go to a home side who looked down and out just before the break.

The wind and slope were a factor. We had the benefit in the first half, and set our stall out early with excellent support play, together with a willingness to run the ball at every opportunity.

Anth Carr was the first beneficiary -  finishing of a spell of pressure on the home line after five minutes. Gareth Foreman was just wide with the conversion.

But we came back and he slotted a decent penalty on the quarter hour.

The pressure continued and home second row Oliver Cooper went to the bin as we pressed on the line. Three minutes later Stephen Stockdale powered over and the conversion put us 15-0 ahead.

Jonny Boatman was the next scorer finishing of a sweeping move which saw Liam Bailey seize on a loose ball to send Andrew Foreman away and he picked his moment to send Jonny Boatmamn in at the corner.  Gareth Foreman then handsomely converted and thoughts went to bonus points.

Then came the break, and Driffield came out ready to give it a go. Our tackling dropped a notch and frustrations grew including with referee Nick Ramsden.

Stephen Stockdale was yellow carded on 46 minutes for killing the ball, and Driffield built up some momentum. We held them out until the 58th minute when scrum half Craig Gray evaded three tackles to go in under the posts to set up an easy conversion for Lee Birch.

Nerves began to jangle a little. With ten minutes left Andrew Foreman was stripped of the ball as he made a touchline break. Driff swept up the wing and desperate West defence on the line ended with Luke Watson sin-binned.

The penalty saw the ball spun wide left and Watson's opposite centre Tom Wright took advantage of his absence to go over with Birch making it 14-22.

Birch increased the pressure on 75 minutes with a long range penalty after Andrew Foreman was penalised for offside, but we knuckled down and saw out the five minutes of injury time without too much difficulty.

We would have settled for the scoreline before kick off and, while there were plenty of plusses in the first half, we will hopefully go into next week's big game against Percy Park having learnt from the errors of the second.
