West 41 Mowden Park 3
A Well Deserved Breather
The West pack started where they left off back on November 20th as they provided the platform for a confidence building win against Mowden.

For both clubs it was the return to action which was important. There were rolling subs throughout the game with plenty of much needed contact.

Gavin Painter gave the visitors an early lead, but once the West pack got into its stride the tries flowed. Darren Thomas got the first, finishing off a move by touching down in the corner. Chocky Davies then emerged triumphant after  a great forward's trundle before half time.

Gav Robinson and Gareth Foreman finished off pressure early in the second half before Joe Rafferty, Andrew Foreman and "Stormin" Stephen  Stockdale all went over. Dominic Stead came on at full back for the second half and added three confident conversions.

Skipper Jonny Boatman missed the run out with a bad cold and Adam Larkin was also sidelined. Both should be OK for selection against Rovers this week, but there is a doubt over Adam Howard who injured his shoulder.

Yes, for those that were not present at the game it was a big loss and whilst it was not all about the result today - no one envisaged a 6 try defeat. It would be easy to blame the ref or hide behind that fact that a significant proportion of 1st team players were missing. The truth is that West deserved their victory and did it by playing some good rugby.

The Mowden players will simply lick their wounds and concentrate on the much more important games that are to come. Sometimes a few harsh lessons can be good to a team..... lets hope so.

I was well impressed at our performance considering that the lads hadn't played for 6 weeks.
