For the second season in a row we slotted an injury time drop goal to seal Cleck's fate. This time it was Gareth Foreman who wielded the executioner's sword to put us more than one score ahead.

We'd gone ahead in the fifth minute after sustained pressure from the kick off. All we had to show was a Paul Moss penalty which he added to five minutes later.

Cleck camed back wth two of their own, on 12 and 17 minutes, to bring the scores level but it was no surprise when we scored the first try of the game.

The organisation and energy levels kept the home sikde pinned back in their own 22. They held us up on the line for several minutes until Adam Coates spotted a gap and barrelled his way over under the post on 24 minutes. Mossy made it 13-6, and it looked like that may be the score at the break, until Scott Jordan had another attack of the verbals.

Gareth Foreman had cleared downfield from his own 22 with the ref warning the rest of the West backs to watch the offside. Jordan objected to the advice and was given a yellow card for his intervention and home fly half Iain Gordon got his third penalty of the half to make it 9-13 at the break.

With 6ft 7in Dave Freeman winning all their own line-out ball, and Cleck looking strong in the scrum, the second half was always going to be challenging and so it proved.

We began the half on the attack but a dropped ball in midfield was seized upon by Gordon and set his backs away down the left. With Jordan still off the pitch we were exposed and Gordon himself finished off the move by toucing down in the corner to make it 14-13.

Last season we would probably have capitulated - but it is a different West this time around and the home lead lasted only three minutes.

We broke up the right with Hodgson and Larkin making ground before feeding Gareth Foreman 25 metres out. He stepped inside two defenders and raced home under the posts with Mossy making it 14-20.

He had a chance to increase the lead with an easy pen on the hour, but screwed the kick wide. But from the restart we kept possession and this time it was Larkin who was sent clear on the right and he also managed to race in under the posts. Mossy scoring the con but only after hitting the post.

That should have been it. However, Cleck weren't prepared to give in easily and their pace and power in the backs brought them back into the game.

First they gathered a poor kick down in the middle with Gordon sending outside centre Pete Murphy into space. He drew the defence to send in Ross Hayden at the corner.

Two minutes later another mistake by West handed possession to the home backs and they swiftly took advantage, despite a despairing tackle by Jonny Boatman. Winger Craig Blackburn going in under the posts to bring the scores to a nerve wracking 26-27.

Hard tackling Gav Robinson replaced Moss to bring some fresh legs into the defence and we continued to look the most likely winners.

So it proved with Colin Cheslin the hero. Andrew and Gareth Foreman orchestrated a move up the left with Ches just beating the defence in the corner. Gareth Foreman took the kick but was just short.

He almost scored himself, after a mazy run through a tiring home defence, but opted to throw a pass out to Ches instead of going for the line himself, and the chance went begging.

But he wasn't to be denied and put the game totally beyond Cleck's reach with that sweet drop goal.

So, a win at a ground where few others will manage a victory this season and a try bonus points. Let's keep it going.
