Morley 27 West 10
Wilson - Try
The coach driver lost his bearings on the way to Morley and his lack of a sat nav proved infectious. The team got off the coach at 2.30 and it wasn’t until 3.30 that they started to play rugby - but by then they were already 20-3 down.
With other scores going against us we need to dig deep against Penrith next week as well against the other sides in the bottom half such as Rochdale and Rossendale swhow e face in the next few weeks.
Harry Readhead cried off with Chocky’s stomach bug before the game, with Paul Williamson resuming at No 9.
Morley took advantage of all the confusion scoring in the first minute with right wing Chris Morgan ending a sweeping move by touching down in the corner.
Paul Moss pulled three points back with a penalty, but left winger Simon Bradshaw got his own penalty before touching down in his own corner on 20 minutes. This was closely followed by a try from Chris Morgan which was converted to give the home side the 20-3 lead they had little trouble in holding until the break.
Both tries were scored with Tom Dixon in the sin bin – a harsh decision by former Rugby League referee Karl Fitzpatrick judging by the reaction the other West players.
Former Gloucester and England ‘A’ half back Scott Benton was running the show for the home side it looked like Morley may be runaway winners in the second half.
But with Adam, Howard in superb form in the forwards, and Peter Hodgson showing similar commitment in the backs, we got into the game at last.
We defended far better and had the home side under some pressure, but Mark Chester was the first to score in the second half with Bradshaw converting to take it to 27-3.
Our try was a good one with Phil Wallis spotting Tom Wilson out wide and delivering a superb kick for the young full back to gather. He sidestepped two defenders to go in beside the post.
