The previous two visits to Yorkshire have produced victories - 18-0 at Middlesbrough on the final day in North One last season and 18-15 at Cleckheaton last month.

Hopefully Saturday's crushing at Dore Moor will be just a one-off.

It was West's worst league defeat since a 46-0 loss at Driffield (in Yorkshire) in December 2004.

When you got to Sheffield Tigers ground on the edge of the Peak District on Saturday a goalless draw looked the most likely outcome.

It was tricky enough just standing in the gale blowing across the pitch never mind playing rugby in it.

Alas, the Tigers were able to play a bit and ran in nine tries, six of which were converted by Tom Outram.

West were unlucky with some poor refereeing decisions - Tim Sawyer was harshly sin-binned and two converted tries were scored while the side had 14 men and one of those tries was scored thanks to some blatant crossing in front of the away posts. fly-half Dave Scully couldn't believe his good fortune as he scampered over unmolested.

At 14-0 down, it was going to be tough to get back into it, but the truth is West did not aid their cause with a below-par performance and weak tackling.

The line-out went very well and Adam Howard stood out on his senior West debut - clearly his time in Melbourne with the Box Hill club has served him well - but apart from that there was little to shout about. Howard drove over for a try early in the second half, with Paul Moss having landed a penalty at the end of the first.

Injuries to Jon Boatman (dead leg) and Steve Smart (shoulder) did not help while Peter Hodgson limped off in the second half. You had to feel especially sorry for Smarty. A player who has impressed in a good Stags squad, he'd earned his chance and he could be facing a long spell on the sidelines.

Such was the reshuffle, Moss came on to play flanker.
