Tynedale 34 Stags 0
Chris Young The Stags travelled to Corbridge looking to give Tynedale a game on their own patch. It was however the home side who came out on top in a very competitive at times bruising encounter.
The Stags playing their first game since the 3rd of January were obviously a little rusty. They did however make an impression on the opposition who commented on the fact that the Stags tried to out muscle the Tynedale side by battering the fringe areas around rucks and mauls.
The home side (Raiders) first score was a penalty by fly half Evans for an offside.(3-0) Next came the first of two tries for winger Horrocks from a blind side break with the winger to outpacing the defensive cover.(10-0)
The second came after a quick switch of play and good hands allowed which allowed Horrocks to finish half time score (17-0).
Not disheartened the Stags took the field in the second half and competed well with what is a well drilled and quick Tyndale squad. However the next score was by Tynedale captain Irving to drive in from close range (24-0) converted by Evans. The Stags then conceded two tries one to scrum half Fieldhouse (29-0) and Lowden who ran in from five metres (34-0)
The last twenty minutes of the game saw the Stags putting the home side under severe pressure but despite crossing the line a couple of times they did not manage to turn the pressure into what would have been deserved points final score (34-0).
As a squad the young (and not so young) Stags learnt a couple of valuable lessons today from a strong home team. Which if they take in and learn by their mistakes it will bode well for the future.
