All in all it was a day to forget for West, the tone was set when the opening kick off drifted into touch. Things didn't improve all that much. Two minutes later fly-half Sam Rasch broke a tackle and slid in for the first score, converting himself from wide on the right.
That was followed by Aaron Myers leaving the field with what looked like a bad wrist or arm injury bringing Tim Sawyer into the action a lot sooner than he would have anticipated.
In a half where ball in play was a rarity, scoring opportunities were few and far between. Paul Moss saw a long range penalty drift wide on 15 minutes but succeeded in pegging back the lead with an easier attempt on the half hour.
Five minutes into injury time at the end of the half Rasch cancelled out Moss' penalty with a successful shot of his own but the hammer blow came two minutes later when a speculative high-ball on half-way was taken by Darren Thomas but snaffled on the floor by Kerry Wood and when the ball was moved wide winger Willie Moala raced in. Rasch again converted from wide out and it all of a sudden felt a long way back for West at 17-3 down.
Playing up the hill in the second half West had plenty of possession without really threatening and periods of good defence were followed by some crucial missed tackles. Mark Olugbode and Chris Judson added tries on 52 and 57 minutes and flanker Ryan Foster added the fifth touchdown with 10 minutes to play.
To their credit West fought back well in the closing stages and were rewarded with a try, Davy Tighe wriggling through a crowd of defenders to score although Moss managed to hit the post with the simplest of conversions. Rasch became the third Westoe player of the afternoon to be sin-binned shortly before time and things began to flare up with each stoppage in play. When a heavy collision took place in midfield with Westoe's David Haswell looking to take Colin Cheslin high and without the ball, play continued but boiled over at the next ruck, West's Andrew Cheslin eventually being shown a red card for his retaliation. It was the final act of the game and capped a very forgettable afternoon.

Aaron got back to the club in plaster - He's got a break to his forearm but it's only mall on the X-Ray and doesn't think it'll be long before he's fit again.

dissapointing result. After a loose start letting them in for the quick try I thought we did well and put them under a reasonable amount of pressure, although were unable to come away with more than 3 points. The crazy period just before half time meant that unless we did something straight away in the second half, they were going to pull away, which was what happened.
I thought Westoe were a decent team. Maola has a lot of pace on the wing although I don't think their 10 is as good as they (or he) think(s) he is - he's got a big boot but not much else and it would have been interesting to see how he would have coped under pressure from myers during the full 80 minutes as he wrapped him up a couple of times before the injury.
They were competing well for the ball at every breakdown, legally or illegally (Wood) although we can't really have any complaints about that - we need to hit the rucks at pace and knock those men back so that they haven't got a chance to play the ball.
We played well in patches, but they took every opportunity they got and that was the difference.

The injuries are getting a bit worrying but good to see that we competed for large parts of the game. Stepping up a level is always hard but it looks like we should be Ok
