Mark was diagnosed suffering from leukaemia in June, 2008, and was in and out of hospital for treatment, including a bone marrow transplant, through the rest of the year.
Taking time off from his treatment, he was a welcome guest at the RWC Lakes Weekend in October, when he enjoyed a couple of drinks at our lunchtime stop (third left in the picture) and more when we gathered for dinner later in the day.
Mark was a founder member of the RWC and rarely missed a chance to enjoy the fresh air, countryside, a laugh, a couple of pies, a pint and perhaps the odd bag of pork scratchings.
Many members knew Mark through work, others knew him by meeting him on walks, and all agreed he was a grand lad.
Good company and a caring companion, Mark Wilson's tragic death at the age of just 30 robs many people of a very good friend - and robs him of the rest of his life.
RWC members send their condolences to Mark's family.
Plans are in hand to commemorate Mark in some way, probably by members inviting everybody who knew him to join us on his favourite walk. We also plan to join his family in placing a bench at one of his favourite spots with a plaque marking our appreciation of his friendship.
