Nomads, without suspended striker Gary O'Toole and injured duo Danny Forde and Sam McNutt, wasted no time at llangefni and were a goal up after 3 minutes when Mike Hayes scored to continue his impressive scoring record since arriving at the beginning of last season. A long punt into the Llangefni area troubled the home defence and after one blocked effort, Hayes was the quickest to react to fire past Simon Williams from close range.

Hayes doubled his tally six minutes before the break when he raced beyond the home defence to beat the advancing Williams to the ball and chipped in under the crossbar, to give Nomads a comfortable half-time lead.

Llangefni, hauled themselves back into proceedings within three minutes of the restart but Nomads survived a spell of pressure to restore their two-goal advantage in the 63rd minute. Stuart Scheuber's long distance free kick was floated into the Cefni area and player-boss McGregor found room in the ensuing melee to loft the ball high into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

After a five minute delay for treatment for injury, Andy Alston was withdrawn and replaced by Rob Jones and Nomads changed from the familiar 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2 line-up, as Jones partnered his namesake Craig in midfield and Jamie Petrie later replaced Scheuber to take up a position on the right flank.

Nomads were in the driving seat when Llangefni were reduced to ten men following a dangerous two-footed lunge on Alan Hooley, before Hayes hoisted himself to the top of the scoring charts with two close-range finishes inside the final two minutes to wrap up the scoring.

Rampant Connah's Quay Nomads close gap on Cymru Alliance League leaders

FOUR-GOAL hero Mike Hayes took his season’s tally to 14 as Gap Connah’s Quay strolled to 5-1 victory over champions Llangefni Town on Anglesey.

Graham Austin had reduced the deficit for the home side to 2-1 with a close range header, before Nomads player-manager Mark McGregor turned home a pinpoint Stuart Scheuber free-kick to score for the third week in a row.

The recently-recalled Hayes then went on to complete his hat-trick and then some, as the visitors strolled to an unexpectedly comfortable victory.

The Deeside Stadium side now sit pretty in second place in the Cymru Alliance, a point behind leaders Cefn Druids with a game in hand but Nomads striker Chris Herbert has left to take the reins at struggling Technogroup Welshpool.
