PORTH TARGET CUP SHOCK FOR NOMADS ON DEESIDE:-Free admission is being offered for this game, but Nomads will need to be at their best to ensure progress in the Welsh Cup against a good Porth side who have already progressed through 3 previous rounds.
AFC Porth, currently lying 6th in the 2nd division of the Welsh League, won 5-1 at Hay St Mary FC in the 2nd qualifying round and went on to show their pedigree with a 2-1 (aet) victory at First Div West End FC in the first round proper. In the 2nd round they beat Goytre FC 2-0, who top the 3rd division with only 1 defeat in their 8 games so far. The long journey to North Wales will only heighten Porth's sense of Cup Adventure and they certainly won't be intimidated by a visit to Deeside Stadium.
Nomads have been on the wrong end of various levels of 'Cup Shocks' a number of times in recent seasons, not least - last Tuesdays NWCFA tie against Colwyn Bay. So this tie against Porth has to be rated as a potential banana skin even though Nomads start as firm favourites. We have shown that when on form this season, Nomads have plenty of goals in the locker and if goals are harder to come by, then we can battle it out for a result. But we were also out battled and outplayed at Rhos and Cefn Druids, so only maximum effort from our team o Saturday will ensure that we don't become the victims of yet another Cup shock.

Program Notes FROM THE GAFFER - AFC Porth
I would like to start by welcoming everybody to the Stadium for this afternoon’s Welsh Cup tie, including everybody associated with AFC Porth.
Our opponents will be looking to cause an upset here and we have to be wary of that threat, but our results so far in this competition have been excellent and we are aiming to keep our run going.
Looking back to last Friday’s win over Llandundo, that game was all about bouncing back from the heavy defeat we suffered at Cefn Druids the previous weekend, and we did just that.
Mike Hayes capped off a tremendous individual display by scoring the winning goal, but it was the strong collective performance that pleased me most as it ensured a well-deserved three points to get back on top in the league.
I felt we coped well after losing Tigger to a red card, and although Llandudno gave us a tough game, it is fair to say that we had the better of the game and deserved to win.
Tuesday night’s game against Colwyn Bay was a great disappointment on a horrible evening, in conditions that were not wholly conducive for playing football.
Losing by a score-line like that is never easy to take and I was particularly disappointed with the way we conceded some of the goals, some of which looked easy for Colwyn Bay, but hopefully the lads who played will have benefited from getting a run-out.
Terry McCormick, Andy Alston and Stuart Scheuber were the only players who had really been involved for most of the season so far, and the rest of the team that featured needed some minutes as they haven’t had much of late.
The only positives to come out of a bad night were the performances of the Academy lads. I was pleased with the way the youngsters went about their game because they deserved that chance after impressing in the youth and reserves this year.
Hopefully we can get back on the winning trail, which we have done after each defeat so far this season, to put our names into the hat for the fourth round draw this week.
We have so far done a very good, professional job in killing teams off when the game was looking tight and we will be looking to do the same again today.

Macca FREE ENTRY For Porth Cup Clash
gap Connah's Quay Nomads are offering FREE ENTRY all round for Saturday's Welsh Cup Third Round tie against South Wales' side AFC Porth.
gap Personnel founder and managing director Gary Dewhurst is hoping the special offer will result in a bumper crowd at the Deeside Stadium.
He told the Flintshire Chronicle: “We always offer free admission for children but have decided to widen that to all fans for this match. It’s our way of giving something back to those loyal supporters who turn up every week, as well as hopefully attracting some new faces.”
“It should be a fantastic atmosphere and if we progress to the next round we will consider extending the offer to further cup games. It’s nice to be able to give something back our supporters in these difficult economic times.”
The winner of Saturday’s cup tie, which kicks off at 2pm, will progress to the last 16 of the Welsh Cup – the winners of which will go into next season’s Europa League.
Fans are advised to arrive early for the 2pm kick off to avoid disappointment.
