True Nomads Supporters

There seem to be new pen-names every week on this site which by now must add up to scores of names IF they are different authors. Going by this and that only some people have internet or bother to write, we could expect hundreds of fans at games- not so! So obviously some are using new names. How many different posters are there?

Hi red hall. 64 different posters over the last 30 days, 93 over the last 60 days. 246 over the last year. This includes all posters, eg fans from other clubs, one off posters and occasional visitors. The further one goes back, the greater the likelyhood of people changing user names, thus inflating the figures.

My determined effort to wipe out the hostility and abuse between posters over the last couple of months, and insisting on registration with email addresses (which I often check but never disclose), there is much less likely hood of the same people using different user names. There has been a massive increase in people using and viewing both the website and the message board over the last 6 months. The message board is viewed 1800 times on really busy days

In response to this week's questions and comments:

To Rob - Tom Rowlands is settling well into the squad and at the moment is somewhat of a raw talent. We may well not see the best of him until next season as he adjusts to the pace and power of the WPL. What is in his favour at the moment is his unpredictability, the spark to create something out of nothing. Ton knows he needs to become more disciplined and do his work in the right areas of the pitch but I am sure he will continue to learn on the pitch and in training.

To Owain - I take your point about consistency, but this also applies to the work we do week in week out on the training pitch also. Herbie has been one of our hardest working players over the past few weeks and I hope he can take that form into matches for us, he deserves that reward for his work ethic and patience. Much the same can be said for Stewart White. I have had several long chats with Stewart about consistency and the mental side of his game. His substitute appearance against Newtown was probably his best of the season. If Stewart can find that level of performance each week he will be a consistent force in the WPL.

To Stamper - Wivey has given some of the explanations for our current position, but I believe the squad continues to grow stronger each week. Last week saw the addition of Sam McNutt who will add another dimension of quality to us, and the transfer window is not yet closed. As Jim has said, we can now pick a team based on form and a more depth of squad, so as competition for places increases, hopefully so do performances. As well as building for the short term, we are conscious of the longer term ambitions of the club and hope people can see that aim with the players coming in. I respect your opinion Stamper, you are entitled to it. mine is that we are galvanising as a squad and will improve over the coming months.

just wondering about your coaching & footballing philosophy, ie what it is? Do you believe in a short passing style, or long ball up to big strong frontman, with midfield joining in to pick up 2nd ball etc? 3-5-2/4-4-2/
4-1-4-1/10-0-0 etc etc? Are full backs there to totally defend or can they have the freedom to join in attacking when play allows? Dutch 'total football' or a more pragmatic 'Sven' style, bore them into penalties & lose gloriously approach? Or a 'take each game as it comes', tinkerman type of approach?

How does welsh football compare to your English experiences (apart from the obvious superior skill factor in England). & can footballing styles and patterns of play from the semi pro mens game be transferred to the women's game? (in your opinion, limited as that may be?)

Sorry to go on & i know you're really busy, but these things really intrigue me as a wannabe coach?

Apologies for the delay in reply. It's a bit of a mixture of all you have said really, our philosophy is to change the team as to fit a particular game and the tactics required.

Ideally on a personal level 442 is easier to coach at a non league level with the limited time you have to work with players. Most players understand the principles better than say a 352 system.

Would everyone not love a 'total football' approach as you mentioned? The difference with that is that at the time of it's revolution in the 1970's Holland probably had the best players in the world! But I love to see full backs getting forward and a good passing team, preferably into the front man's feet or wide. Is it always possible? Alas no, but you are talking ideal scenarios?

I must say I don't agree with your 'superior skill factor in England' comment. The main difference I have found with the WPL is a much more physical approach and that is something we as a team of new players are coming to terms with, but trying to maintain some quality on the ball.

Finally in response to your last question I think many styles of play are adapted to the women's game. i believe the main difference is that below the top level of the game female players do not have the ability to play 60 yard passes so a higher pressing game (eg 343) allows teams to win the ball back in better areas. This systemn was used by the successful USA team continually over the last decade.

Thanks - the situation with Adam Dickinson is as follows:

Adam unfortunately was injured during our off season while out in Australia and then only managed 20 minutes of our season before suffering another injury that has deprived us of his services for this season. As a contracted player, particularly in light of the circumstances surrounding his first injury, I think we as a club have been very fair with Adam.

When it became evident that Adam would not appear again this season he was asked to consider extending his contract for a further year. Unfortunately for the club Adam declined this offer and wishes to keep his options open when he returns from injury at some point into next season. This in turn has opened negotiations for a settlement on his current contract. That is about as clear as we can be at this time!


Spongy - I think you know the answer to that! Yes 10k, no not a record and yes I still have the shorts to train in, although somewhat tighter these days! Thanks for your 'question!'

Andy, rumour has it that you were the winner of the football quiz held before Christmas on the way back from Neath. Can you let us know: a. What did you spend your winnings on? b: Were you 'in' on the answers from the quizmaster? c: Were you surprised by how easy it was to beat the opposition (players)? d: Do you think that not drinking alchohol gave you an advantage.

Knowing the players as I do, I reckon that it was like taking candy from a group of baby's, what do you think.

T'riffic answer Andy, thanks. I hope that is of interest to other supporters too. It seems unfortunate that Dicko is apparently unwilling to get his head down and prove himself and demonstrate his ability by extending his time with Nomads. I hope he will give this careful consideration before any final decision, and I hope he is getting trustworthy and intelligent advice from whatever parties are influencing him outsuide the club.

He has been a popular and valuable figure at Nomads and had things gone differently last Summer his value in the transfer market might now be considerably higher, as might our position in the league table. The position occupies on the field has been one that incoming players might have found it relativelyeasy to fit in with and provided a 'cohesive' route out of defence into attack.

Fantastic question!

Yes, it is true I won the quiz. It should also be pointed out it was a pairs quiz but being a lonely soul on the bus i was forced to enter the quiz on my own and still won. Some would say knowing that Coventry City were the last team to win the FA Cup wearing stripes in 1987 is sad, I prefer to take a 'knowledge is power' outlook on it, with or without alcohol!

The good thing is that I didn't have to split the £17 prize money with anyone and I bought a scooter magazine, a pepsi max, a bar of toblerone, three lottery lucky dips and the rest probably went on buying drinks for my car pool on the way home from training (Cookie never gets his hand in his pocket)

Despite the pathetic protests from Stewart White, I was not 'in' on the answers and I am looking forward to defending the title at a later date. As you say, when one of the teams consists of Bungle and Herbie, the phrase 'shooting fish in a barrel' comes to mind.....!!!!!!!!!

Another question that's been bothering me for a while is whether you feel that Ken Price is deliberatly copying your hairstyle. I'm sure that Ken had longer hair last season, yet he appears to be looking and dressing like you more and more. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but I'd like to know your thoughts if possible.

Whilst I've time I'd like to ask you about the Alan Glover situation. When he first played for Nomads he looked a great signing, but as time went on and his hair got longer and more unruly he appeared to make a lot more mistakes.

My own thoughts are that the hair products he find in the school showers arent't suitable for a man of his age and he should look to purchase better quality products when doing his weekly shop, rather than posing in the young childrens section of the supermarket. I'd hope that by concentrating more on his appearance he will regain some decent form whilst also looking sharp.

Do you think having windswept hair such as Alan's causes a problem when defending? If so, a wet windy night at Bamber Bridge may be an accident waiting to happen unless he either gets better hairgel or has it cut.
