just for your information to this debate. I follow the connahs now because of their chester west cheshire connections. i watch alot of west cheshire football in chester, at div 1 and div 2 and mostly at christelton and nomads. If really deperate i go to blacon to watch a game! i see all the best teams who come up from wirral and there is no doubt that they are very good teams with good players although whilst they are fit they are probably not as fit as welsh players particulary at the top end. Christleton have been a good team and then a poor team and even though they won the league a few years back it had alot to do with the big lad at the back who broke his leg eventually. other than that they were a talented but average team. I also have seen enough games where kilgannon was simply not there and other than his shooting there were lots of times when you would not of known that he was a class above the level, which he defintely was. Must disagree with herbert though. He has always been a willing worker but was far from a class above when i watched him in the west cheshire and generally i doubt that most teams were worried about him. although a nice fella by all accounts he was no top west cheshire player and even rowlands has only done it in the west cheshire in fits and starts. the best players come from your lairds and your vics and runcorn this season.

The welsh premier is strongor than the wets cheshire but for a lot of the teams in the league (except the top four) i would fancy the west cheshire teams to give them a game if they trained twice a week. however, i also think the west cheshire is full of bluffers who know hey are good players but not prepared to work hard to get there. there should be no snobbery from the welsh league though because as far as i can see, and i have watching west cheshire football since 1971 when chester college has a team it now really survives on the best west cheshire wirral and chester players and the worst scouse lads who can't really succeed at non-league in England.

Chester team watcher, it sounds like sour grapes to me, you must be a player who isnt good enough to make the step up to wpl like these boys have done. To say that Wes never stood out at christleton is a joke. He got voted west cheshire player of the year on 2 occassions and it was deserved as you get voted by opposing managers. And Herbert has always been one of if not the top scorer in west cheshire football for the last 7 or 8 years, there is not a player from chester even near his goal tally in this time from the chester area, i would say only aiden shannon can be near him but even he will be some way off. Must admit i do think Rowlands is over rated though, he seems to have a bad attitude on the pitch. You say the best players come from lairds and vics i bet you cant name many that have if any. Just check west cheshire league table i think you will find vics are 4 from bottom, so come on talk some scense please.

thanks for your reply to the post. first thing to nail down is the accusation that it is a post from a bitter player who is not good enough as a player...that is probably true as there is not much call for a 50+man to play right midfield in the welsh premier! Although i certainly was a good west cheshire player with chester college..when it was a really good league!!! anyway, enough of that rubbish as to be honest i think it is good debate reagrding the welsh league and the west cheshire league. as stated before the west cheshire league has been an excellent league over time but now suffers because of the welsh league which is largely average other than the top clubs.

the second thing to nail down is the kilgannon point...read the post, it is acknowledged that he is a class above west cheshire level and deserves to be playing where he is...the point i was making is that he went throuigh many games where he was largely poor and did not always stand out but that was because of how he is i imangine rather than ability.

still cannot agree about herbert. he was a good player, no more no less but his lack of real consitent action in a nomads shirt demonstrates that. He is playing above himself now and will end up back in west cheshire. I hope to be proven wrong but i suspect over time i will not.

Yes, i agree about rowlands, he played some games for christleton when he was excellent in the first half and then poor in the 2nd. i am not sure he has the heart for the fight when it is needed. players like clarkey, jones and antrobus carried many of these players over the years.

I was talking historically about teams like lairds and the vics as i know they often do well and will come again no doubt.

so its nothing personal if you know these lads as i do not but now they are open to comments from this forum and it is interesting to see how they do. Would they play anywhere else if there was not ther christelton connections?

Definatly sour grapes from somewhere, sorry but if you dont know them both!! how do you know herbert is a nice lad as mentioned in your other post?????????? you are a player, you couldnt name me 2 players from the old chester college side who my uncle played for. What is your name and ill ask him how good you was? I think we get lads knocking Herbert because of his past reputation, i.e dissaplin problems, but from what ive seen and heard he is a changed man,he must be 31/32 years old now and still unbelievably fit, you named neil clarke (clarky) as someone who carried christleton, ha dont make me laugh he has always been a average player.
Like i say you cant argue with both players records no matter what standard they are at. I do agree about the top 5 or 6 sides being too good for west cheshire sides, but the rest would struggle against your heswalls, west kirbys, camel lairds and christletons.

Certainly will not be posting my name as discretion is the key to making important and relevant points on a forum. Its unfair and unethical to name 2 players but one is a assitant manager, coach now at skem and the other just retired as a PDM in bolton. If you are desperate to find out their names then go and do the research as it will not be too hard. They were both excellent players in their day and one still heavily involved in football in the unibond and the other involved in sport. you tell me your name and perhaps i may of taught you in chester??!! only joking!

As regards to knowing herbert is supposed to be a nice lad...its called...wait for it...word of mouth! its not rocket science! also an important to point to remember is that i recoginised that he is a good player!

Listen, i may be wrong and i certainly do not profess to say that i am definitiely right but i have watched enough of christeltons games to know that clark made a great impact for them. Am i saying that clark is an excellent player? No but i am sure that he was more important to christelton? Kilgannon brother is a better and more effective player than herbert when fit. its called watching games and having an opinion.

So do i have sour grapes? maybe in the sense that i think the west cheshire league i played in has become poor and devauled because of the welsh league but i am gobsmacked when i see players push on who were not that great in the league they played in! so maybe yes!

glad you agree with my final points about the standards of west cheshire leagues versus welsh but overall i have probably realised that i have too much time on my hands this week!

Young kilgannon is too lazy to make it in the welsh prem, and isnt close to wes or herbert or the lad o rourke at christleton now. You dont know your stuff and ive worked out that it must be sour grapes because they left christleton and you are obviously a big supporter/player because thats all you are going on about. And as for word of mouth about herbert being a nice lad only his friends think that i reckon because a lot of people i talk to think his rep is true and people dont like him for it, so you must know him personally! Are you sure you arent this clarkey as he was never good enough to mention as much as you, and you must be watching differant games to what i seen. Ive never seen a left back run games like your saying he did. Bye mr clarke!

I've met Chris Herbert a number of times and never found him to be less than charming, friendly and agreeable. (But not in a gay way...)

how can you say young kilgannon is lazy, have you seen his work rate every game? this lad carries christleton week in week out, should he ever be missing you can see that is missing!
davoes, if you watched a christleton game sometime you would see that young kilgannon gets MOM most games, scores from midfeild and this becuase of his ability and disire to win.
davoes you know nothing.
