nomads v rhyl

We looked a hell of a lot better than the past few weeks today, but if we are tottaly honest you probably wont see Rhyl play that bad all season. I was expecting the new signings to be better than the players that they were replacing for me the signings are very average from this performance. I cant believe that Herbie and Pinch didnt start as i thought as did others that they looked very good partnership last week. alson and burns who is very average and looked very slow to react to things in my eyes showed nothing any better than herbie and pinch. I am a bit dissapointed that there is no quality players come in, like i say very average. The lad in the middle with tigger is just a sunday league player and if i was white herbie or pinch i would feel hard done by with him being thrown straight in, he made a few decent challeges but that was it, he couldnt pass the ball or win headers. The only new signing worth a mention for me was the left back at last someone to take glovers place. Sorry to put such a negative on it but i was expecting a lot better signings than we have got in. Hopefully there is better to come yet???????

That is what myself and most of our fans thought today. These new signings that jim has been waiting for a without a doubt no better than we have already. Rhyl were playing as if it was a training session today. We also agreed Herbie should never have been dropped for the new lad burns he doesnt like the ball at his feet what so ever every time he had it to feet he just hoofed it out, at least hebie can play a bit. I think Pinch was injured thats why he wasnt involved. Macca looked a bit better but still terrible in the air and too slow. Shame about melia but he can be replaced by lads already here he is nothing special. Left back looked good and yes ford in the middle nowhere near good enough but worked hard. Where are these new signings from they must be lower leagues all of them. All in all i think the signings arent up to what we were expecting, but we did look better than recent weeks.

I think rob hills and raider are being a bit too critical and I thought it was a much better performance than I expected after our recent heavy defeats. Yes, Rhyl didn't probably played as well as they can but maybe that's because we gave them more of a game than they were expecting. Let's give the new lads a chance to settle in and at least wait to see how they get on against Caernarfon on Saturday - they are having a bad run like us and it is a must win game for us.

I thought all of the new players showed they had something to offer and it was a pity we lost two of them to injuries. I'm a bit happier tonight than I was after the game on Boxing Day so I for one will give Jim and the all of the players a chance to turn things round.

Not good enough i was looking on the main page a few days ago and jim s comments give me lots of confidance that these new signings were going to turn our season, NOT A CHANCE ok better squad but like the other post say not 1 signing is any better than we have. Just read the other post about Herbie going to right back, i think that is a good shout he reads the game well enough for pacy wingers not to leave him for pace and if he does have this big throw then he could be a good outlet, might be worth a look jim and andy.

nomad 4 life, one thing we dont have is time, we have 1 month to get players who are going to turn us around. You cant honestly say that any of these players looked better than what we have. We need some big experianced players who can win headers hold balls up and get the younger lads up for these games. We were always going to be a bit better today with 6 new signings coming in to the side, they would have been out to impress. But sorry i wasnt that impressed, a loss is a loss doesnt matter if its 8.0 or 1.0. We just lack that extra quality that every other team has in midfield, we have too many workers with no football brains.

Rob, thanks for your match assessment, but I think you will agree that it is a bit contradictory. You start by saying

"We looked a hell of a lot better than the past few weeks today"

but then go on to say that the new players look average or less, implying that they are no better than the ones who played in the Boxing Day thrashing. If you have read this site you will know that Gary Pinch is nursing a knee injury and facing surgery. So it's obviously wise to rest him if there is any chance of him playing against the vital game against Caernarfon on Saturday. Surely you will agree that with 6 new players all making their debut's at once, after a 5-0 home beating, a 1-0 away defeat is remarkable progress.

The report on our front page is from Dave Jones who does all the Rhyl reports for the Rhyl Visitor and has won Sports Reporter of the year. His reports are biased towards Rhyl and according to him, the result wasn't down to Rhyl playing any worse, but us playing much better than Boxing Day. He says

"The new signings in the Quay camp no doubt made a difference, especially the much-travelled Phil McDiarmid at wing-back and Mike Burns at centre half"

He even ends his report by saying

"Overall a deserved three points for the Lilywhites, but if Nomads keep performing like this, they may yet escape the relegation which many are predicting"

He supports Rhyl, yet his assessment of our players and prospects is more optimistic than yours

I can't believe you guys. A 1-0 defeat at 3rd placed Rhyl with 6 new players who have never played together before, is not good enough, after defeats of 8-0 7-0 6-2 twice, 5-0, 4-0 twice etc. I know I wasn't there, but I prefer to accept the evidence of results and the Rhyl reporters assessment than yours. You didn't really think that Jim could tempt or afford 6 well above average WPL standard players to sign on for us, did you.

With 6 players coming in all up to prove they are good enough, that is why we were a bit better wivey. Mike Burns definatly nothing special, too clumsy. I know its a bit harsh but its true, we need atleast 2 more experianced players with a bit of nouse about them. There reporter isnt going to say we are a poor team now is he. We did play a lot better than boxing day , but that isnt hard to do is it. This lad ford in the midfield wouldnt get in any other wpl side so why is he getting in ours, this is just my views on our new look team sorry if i have offended anyone by this but i love watching nomads and it upsets me to see us struggle like this. January is our last chance to get some quality in, and as of yet we dont have it. I also agree with the Herbert at right back, if he has a big throw its like a free kick isnt it he can clear the lines with it. Sorry again if ive been too blunt with my comments.

Wivey, It was more than just a few of us that were saying that we have not signed the right players but we did need to improve the squad. There are players out there you just have to go a find them. Players who are struggling to get a game in the teams above us would be a start, not players from lower leagues. If 3 or 4 days earlier you beat a team 5.0 which could have been 10.0 then your bound to take your foot off the peddle a bit by thinking you have a easy game against us, believe me wivey we are not much if anything better than before, and i was there to see it first hand. So we are going to be in the same position if we dont get a bit more quality in.

Sorry Wivey but these posts are all correct in my eyes, the team changes week in week out Herbie a prime example started as a forward getting in 1 week and out the next, then jim turned him in to a defender he played 1 full game at the back and the other 2 he started in defence (where for me he played very well in all games) then at half time got pushed upfront, i mean how can anyone settle in the team its not just herbie this has happened to there is Caddy, Baker, White and alson also. But today was an improvement but you can see straight away when someone has that bit of quality and for me not 1 of the signings had it. They just done a job and thats it. Im sick of the comments about lets give them time we are now in deep trouble and time is something we just dont have. Lets just get realistic about it. We need 10 maybe 12 points to be safe and i for 1 dont want to rely on other teams to keep us up at the end of the season i want points to start coming quick.

Pinch and Herbie should be centre backs after there last few peformances together, while bungle is out, but would be happy for herbie or alson with pinch and the other going to full back. I was there today and its not the signings we were expecting we are in the relegation zone and dont look like getting out of it if this is all jim can get signed. I agree with the earlier post about there being players out there, you just have to go and find them, the perfect answer is to get the players from the teams above us who might not be playing as much football as they would like, and say they have chance of playing week in week out with us. We still need 2 wingers cronshaw was a bit lightweight and even went of because the ball hit him in the face, caddy for me just holds on too much and gives the ball away a lot, he shold have been sent off for a 2 footer, very lucky. 2 forwards worked hard with no chances coming there way, but same again i agree Macca is to slow an makes no attempt to win headers. He is a big boy he needs to throw his weight around.

We werent at the Rhyl game, we had a most enjoyable afternoon watching Chester get their arses well and truely kicked by Grimsby. :-D Wonderful atmosphere too and a superb match pie ;-)

We were however kept well informed of the Nomads game by phone and text - big thanx to DG & all the others - phone didnt stop! and were told that Nomads played well and didn't deserve to lose. Rhyl will always be a difficult team to play and Im sure Belle View was a baptism of fire for the new signings.

I think we are being premature and way too critical in our comments. The magical window has arrived, yes - but our turn of fortune was unlikely to happen instantaneously.

Give the lads a couple of weeks to settle, see what happens. I agree that a few of our existing players need to be way more aggressive and passionate. If they all gave as much as, for example Tigger does on the pitch, we would be a real force to be reckoned with. We lose the ball too often and need to win those headers.

Its been a frustrating season, we started very well but once the injuries started creeping in and us being so thin on the ground with replacement players, we started to slip down the table. Had we started bad and then had the good spell, we would all have had a different opinion of our teams progression.

I personally am devastated that Melia has gone. He was one player I did NOT want to see go, one of my sons favourites too. I wish him all the best but its a real blow for us.

We are dangerously low in the table but our hope is more than just a glimmer. I very much believe we can achieve what we set out to do at the start of the season and look forward to seeing us improve and rise up the table.

Saturdays match v Caernarfon, give the lads a chance. They need our support more than ever before.

a big well done to the nomads team for restoring my faith in them with this performance, after sitting through some real hammerings this season it was great to see the team respond to last weeks display, make no mistake rhyl were out to top last weeks score, but the nomads new players and old made sure this was not going to happen, you only had to look at the rhyl keeper in the last few minutes of the game to see how worried he was that nomads were going to get a draw, don't know why jim left white out,the only player we have who knows how to use the ball, but he probably felt he had to try something different after recent games, never mind the result this was a moral victory for nomads, the whole attitude from the team was superb,we even tried to play football passing through the midfield instead of our usual up and under routine, well done nomads and jim and his team.

i think it was a great turning point for us ,as in the past the heads would have gone down easily,i know it was a defeat but if you had seen some of the games before this one,you would have been impressed by the turnaround in performance.

Im sorry but i find it unbelievable that a few of you are made up with a defeat. We had 2 shots hit the target all game. They were creating chance after chance and they didnt get out of second gear. We need to realise that the signings we have made are not going to make us much better. All we done differant to recent weeks was work harder and stick together, but this happens at every club when january comes as players need to prove that they are good enough so they up there game slightly. I agree to a certain extent about White starting but he hasnt looked interested lately. If anyone has a claim to have been playing it was Herbert against cefni and last week he looked 1 of our better players and he was left out. If i was Herbie i think i would have left by now, maybe that shows his comitment or maybe he is just daft for putting up with it. Not sure what has gone on with pinch but he would be in my team just for his comitment. I just read the report on main page from papers, i cant believe jim has said that the centre back burns was good, he was ok but was slow and not very strong in the air for a big lad, he made a bad headed clearance for there goal too. The small lad upfront looked ok but dont think i would play him with macca, you need someone to win the headers for the small lad to go on to and i think Macca only won 1 flick on. But my main point is we looked better but certainly not good enough to move up in the league. We will only win the odd game by battling because we have no quality to get on the ball and play, not one player correct me if im wrong but every team has a playmaker in this league apart from us.

I was at the game yesterday,.....agree with most comment above, i no we need changes , but 2 throw 6 new players in all at once, was askin 4 trouble. we could of won but we did,nt........there was no improvement at all, Rhyl just had an off day, it was a kick about in the park for them. Had a quick word with the players who were left out, Pinch was fit and expecting to play, untill he got the ground, and .....not even on the subs bench, which seemed silly to me. He is waiting for an operation, but that could be months away, so able to play till then with full commitment, agreee Herbie must be getting frustrated, and IMO theres players we allready have to take Melia,s place.... we have a hard second half of a season to go, Lets hope we can get the points we need to stay up, Starting with a win Saturday.

DOONE your totally right, i could not believe what Jim was doing by putting these 6 lads in before he has seen them play for connahs quay they have all come from lower leagues so how can he know that these lads will fit in to this style of play in the welsh prem. I just think jim needs to learn a bit more of what this league is about, he only seems to know young lads, this league requiers experianced players. This would help the young lads progress and slowly blend them in to first team football. I also heard about Gary Pinch being fit but not involved and he is our most experianced wpl outfield player. I also agree that Chris Herbert should be playing, i dont think he has set the world alight upfront (but is still better than macca white and melia in my eyes), but since jim switched him to defence ive seen a big change, we looked more solid because he has this scence of knowing when there might be danger, he reads the game well and can also pass a ball well without panicing on the ball. Ive got to agree with a few of the others about him playing full back i would like to see that. Im also very unsure on ford and burns, there is no way Ford has what it takes to play in this league he was just like a headless chicken in the middle of the park, he didnt know who or how to pick up his man, couldnt head a ball properly and he had 2 left feet because his passing was dreadfull. Burns is someone ive heard of, and he has had very mixed reviews, some say 2 slow and has a tendency to make mistakes and others say he is no nonscence but cant play. I would agree with the second 1 from what i seen at belle view. He is noway as good as Pinch or Herbert, so why did he just get thrown straight in without watching him?????????
