I don't consider concentrating on getting men behind the ball is the same thing as "hoofing it", which falls into the category of 'hit and hope' and is a recipe for disaster. It requires much more patience than that, and moreso requires practised routes out of defence to players capable of holding up the ball, retaining possession and / or winning a throw or free kick, and it can work with a couple of wide players and just one up front. The key to the suggestion is defence in depth. We all too often appear to be overstretched at the back, something that comes with players not tracking back well enough.

I hope I'm not trying to teach anyone how to suck eggs here, I'm really only trying to draw a distinction between the 'men behind the ball' ethic and the 'route one' approach. They are two completely different things.

We get beat 8 - 0 and most of the talk is about FORWARDS am i missing something hear ?
We can change our forwards every game but if we keep letting in 7 or 8 goals the forwards need to come from the premiership or la leager:oD

Good teams defend all over the pitch, starting with the forwards!

I wish all the posters on this message board would please sit back and think carefully before they post, some of the opinions of how we should or should'nt play are totally amateurish. All the posters do is give there own managerial opinion then go on to give their support for Jim. We're on a message board, not the terraces. As we all know Jim regulary reads the message board, which i think must have a negitive affect on Jim. We'd all like to think we could be premiership managers, but if the truth be known we'd all struggle to manage an under nines team. Lets all just sit back and support, and hope Jim and the team come through this bad patch. Telling Jim how to suck eggs is helping nobody.

Quay at Heart,

Of course our opinions are amateurish! we are all supporters, not managers - thats why we sit in the terraces and not the dugouts! :-|

However, this is a forum, a place to discuss our own opinions of how we think things could/should or shouldnt be done, rightly or wrongly, this is a place to whinge about the refs, a place to air our support, a place for ongoing discussion!

Jim is fully aware that there are going to be good posts, bad posts and indifferent posts and likes to read peoples opinions and fully respects whatever they may be. He understands that this is a place where the fans can 'suggest their thoughts', show their frustrations and delight in the good times etc.

We are all fully behind the management and team but are entitled to our opinions either way.
