Thanks for your observations, Gaz, we will need all the luck that we can get this season. Our keeper in the 1st league cup game was Richard Roberts.

just watched the highlights on tv,it does'nt look any better,at least 3 of the goals could have been prevented, but on the tv showing, bangor would have caused any team problems last night, nice touch from the bangor supporter to come on and wish us well.

It was even more embarrasing to watch on telly, some of the bangor play was very very good but any team that is getting payed to play should never get beat by this score line. I also agree Herbi should have been playing but he would have made little differance to this score line. I think Glover should have been left out of the squad but alson should have joined him. I thought White looked better when he went to right back in the last 20 mins, maybe thats because we had herbi on to hold it up better than the others. Im not a big fan of Melia but thought he worked hard when he come on. maybe he is worth a go on the wing, where we are struggling.

The problems created by the mass exodus preseason have been referred to many times through these pages. As many of you have acknowledge the timing of these problems meant that there was no time to recruit ‘big’ (experienced) L of W players and consequently your team had to be built from scratch. Anyone observing the first training session would have been even more pessimistic than many of you have reason to be at the moment.
Having witnessed some success in the past, you will be aware that winning consistently at this level is very much dependent on the number and quality of your ‘big’ players: players that can dominate their individual opponent and then contributed to either (a) collective domination as did Bangor and Cefn Druids or (b) skilled teamwork domination as Rhyl and New St’s.
In my view, we started with only one such player with the remainder at varying but early stages of their value as L o W players. Because of transfer regs’, as coaches, our short term objective must be to develop whoever we can from our squad into those ‘big’ players we need. At this stage there is no other option.
Commitment to training (Conditioning is my role), and some ‘live’ performances, has suggested to me that we have a chance, but the players need time; time they were not given by your departing ex-heroes. Lack of experience at this level means they are experiencing a steep learning curve during which players will experience inexplicable dips in form and effect. Ideally we should be able to rest a player going through a bad time in a quality reserve team setup. Unfortunately that option is not available to us either.
Rash, sometimes degrading comment about players going through those bad times or over emphasizing performance by substitutes replacing them with the game dead, lacks the objectivity that these players need as they try to retain your league status.
Having been with the number of L o W clubs, I have seen these dips before (you don't have to look too far down the road to find a league club going through a similar crisis), and, as ‘wivey’ points out, CQN have been here before and regrouped. ‘Belle view boy’ may remember Jim Smith & Barry Roberts successful struggle, in the leagues formative years, to hold league status with local players. Look at them now!
In the short term Jim and Andy have had to accept the limitations and constantly reassess current playing strength and potential. They are constantly trying to identify if we can help players to make a greater contribution to the team effort as they also seek to retain your league status. They took this on knowing it was no easy ride and, as you have identified there is no easy answer. ‘Redd hall’, although I suspect you are somewhat ‘tongue in cheek’, there is no smooth way back from relegation as many North Wales originals can testify.
Yes the January transfer a window may provide a gem, and not just a reject a looking to do just enough until a better offer comes along, but in the meantime, as, ‘OG’ says, we need to be an attraction for that ‘gem’.

Since September I have felt that as the players adjust to the training regime; travelling; L o W demands etc., we will have a good second half to the season. I still believe that, despite the dejection we were all feeling; supporters’ management and players alike.
Perhaps for once everybody was united albeit in dejection!! Surely we can retain that unity, support the players and together pull this around. If you are TEAM supporter, (not just the supporter of an individual), the few detractors amongst you will help by taking up the ‘wivie’ challenge, of ‘getting behind (ALL (my emphasis)) the players we’ve got’. Even though at times they may struggle, I know that as individuals they have the desire to compete and win at this level and, in patches, we have seen that they can play a bit. It’s up to us to give them the rest of the tools to do the job.

Plenty more battles before the war is won.
‘Quayhead’ you’ve got it right ‘it’s a confidence thing’.

That was a good post to read essentialspeed. It does make you think when your read it. My point when mentioning the subs from the other night was that i think they have got a bit more quality than some of the lads that started. There is quite clearly a few players struggling to get to grips with this standard that started on friday. We have also had a few good finds this season in jones, kilgannon (even though needs to shed a few pounds)and maybe baker. Iwould just like to see a settled side now we have seen who is and is not good enough to start. For me a settled side should have wes in the middle and not on the wings, and bungle and pinch centre backs, we just need to get it right round them........................ I appolagise to the players i named in my last post, it was just frustration. SORRY.

That sounds like a potential title for an Oasis album. What was their last one called?

Blaen sorry if this has been posted elsewhere - I went on the link to your site and read the match reports have been removed 'at the clubs request.'

What does this mean exactly? Not having read the Bangor game I'm not sure what this is about - is it linked to the racism comment on their boards?

Cheers!

It means I misunderstood some feedback regarding what was intended as a humorous and witty, stoic response to a comprehensive defeat by a side that is currently a nemesis to supporters who think as I do. It seems the brief report and pictures of a tribal mask (result of a google images search for "pain") and a stuffed roast turkey were read as personal criticism by others although they were rathermore intended to convey how the result left me feeling. It is tricky getting anything online in the brief time I had at the local library on Saturday morning, my own pc is still down so I can't design pages at present, it's all hand coded 'on the fly'. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes not.

I'll leave it at that, but in an unrelated development my involvement in match video recording has also been suspended indefinitely.

This will not of course affect my unconditional support for the club or my capturing moving images from the touchline as I have successfully done for over a year, including many matches at Flint and elsewhere, and to the general appreciation of visitors to aryblaen from far afield.

The opening page at aryblaen has been amended to reflect my aformantioned misunderstanding and the Bangor link restored after Mike Smith contacted me to report that he has removed the offending messages and taken steps to exclude the offending poster.

Not having watched the match dvds yet, I haven't written a full report. It is difficult to get the 'big picture' watching live with one eye on the viewfinder and the other half shut as I have previously gone into at length on 'aryblog'. I am now looking forward to yelling some encouragement at matches as it is impractical to so do whilst filming.
