True Nomads Supporters

I see fans more volatile than them in my position at Chester City and the many years I've spent watching Everton too but Rhyl's fans are by far the most jumped-up bunch of shits in the WPL by far.

They have no respect for the league that they play in because they think they are better.

I'm no fan of Rhyl whatsoever and I now refuse to got to BV after a number of incidents between the two clubs in recent years. But I do think that we can't tar them all with the same brush, a number of years ago before the sunny invasion, Rhyl was a cracking little club that actually used to get lower crowds than us. So I think Blaen makes a good point.
Also I think that name calling only lowers ourselves to their level, Woody!

It was a pleasure to speak with you after the match last night, we should all (supporters) take the time to get together more often, maybe to have an after match pint on occasion.

However, please dont confuse our good name 'Barmy Army' with Rhyl's bunch of filthy mouthed league 2 wannabees or the phrase 'enthusiasm' with hooligans looking for trouble ;-)

if this was a sly comment about 'our' increasing number of boys, there is no need for concern. They are good lads and we are more than prepared to do our bit to make sure everything stays as it should be.

If you think I am going to engage you on the level of "sly comments" you are going to be disappointed.

To be fair to those who were chanting for Nomads last night, their support was all good natured and the language used was more than acceptable. The same could not be said about the Rhyl fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first home game last night and as someone who has always shouted loud support for Nomads, more often alone at the South Wales away games than at home, it was a real privilage to join the Nomads barmy army for a night, even if I am a little hoarse today. The chanting was witty, good natured and loud and best of all not remotely obcene, vulger or remotely threatening. Well done Barmy Army, I hope my voice recovers for Saturday

Everyone knows that I won't tolerate or condone threatening or abusive language on this website and you all seem to respect that. It is totaly unneccessary at football matches as well, in my opinion, but the Barmy Army were nothing but a credit to the club. If we continue to grow in numbers, humour, wit and volume, then we can become the clubs greatest assett as far as the players performances on the pitch are concerned, as well as enjoying ourselves, whether we win or lose.

Ironicaly, the only real threatening or abusive behaviour last night came from the Rhyl players, in response to Cadwalladers tackle which undoubtedly deserved at least a booking. Anyone, including you BVB, who trys to tell me that the Rhyl team response was acceptable, needs their heads exmining. Even the goalkeeper ran 75 yards to join the bullying and intimidation of Cadwallader and other Nomads players, by repeatedly pushing and threatening him and any of the few Nomads players who endeavoured to protect him. It was reminiscent of the English Premier League of a few seasons ago when one or two teams made an art of similar bullying and intimidation designed to intimidate the other team and the referee. Fortunatly. they seem to have stamped it out in their league and the football is better for it.

Until the last year ot two, I must say I always thought the Rhyl fans were noisy boistrous and good natured and never felt intimated by them. I had experienced the Bangor fans as a bit intimidating. In the last couple of years the Rhyl fans do seem to be devoping a bit of a seige mentality and the increase in vulgar chanting reflects that, as does the website. I used to visit quite often for some lively debate. My last couple of visits to Rhyl's website were well over 6 months ago and both were received with hostile and robust personal attacks. Unfortunatly hostility between a small minority of rival WPL fans on some webstes have ruined message boards and is also creeping into some grounds between rival fans. I am highly professionally trained in recognising, treating, and protecting people from threatening behaviour and personal abuse, but since retiring I don't need to go there anymore. At the very least it's hard work and it's certainly no fun.

Just to finish on a positive note, I thought the atmosphere was as good as any that I have experienced at Deeside, on Tuesday, and apart from the foul language the Rhyl fans added a lot to the enjoyment. I am Really looking forward to Saturday.

Wot a awesome game chanting all game gutted we got beat but still an awesome game saturday is going to be mint WERE GOING TO KICK THEIR ASS :_)

Some really interesting posts here. Blaen, please excuse my sometimes very dry humour, most of what I say is tongue in cheek, but I feel as most dont know me personally on here, its easy and understandable to misconstrue. I shall try to be a little more careful in future, my intentions were not to offend.

Regarding the above posts I would like to contribute and at the same time get something off my chest. The first thing I noticed about coming to the game (actually to my horror!) was that the fans werent segregated. Being brought up solely on English League football, it has taken a long time to me to adjust to it and I still dont get it/understand why. I feel at times very uncomfortable, not because of violence or anything like that, it just seems extremely alien. Most Nomads games weve been to, the supporters that we have mixed with have been great, especially at Newi Cefn Druids where we had a lot of banter, particularly with the middle aged supporters and we were able to laugh and joke together. Still its very weird and I wonder if its ever going to sink in.

I can wholeheartedly vouch for the present 'Barmy Army' as being good lads looking to support their home team and having a good laugh & letting off all that teenage steam at the same time. Where else can you go where you can shout and clap and make a monkey of yourself without anyone complaining or moving you on? Their energy is being channelled into doing something good, something they and others can be proud of.

Increasing numbers is what we want and as you are aware, we are doing everything we can to promote the club and gain new interest to raise gates. I followed your link (Blaen) regarding crowds and understand your concerns. I know the Stewards at the Stadium are volunteers but I have no idea if they are trained or not. Maybe its not a concern at this point in time but if the attendances continue to grow as planned, it is something that will need to be addressed in the future. I can almost hear the boards thoughts regarding the need to look into this but you can't have one without the other. Fortunately, there have been no problems to date and Im really enjoying supporting the Nomads. It was wonderful to have Wivey and guest join us and I was even more delighted when I looked behind us and saw a few more people singing and clapping, especially the older supporters.

Feelgood factor is at 100% right now, despite the Rhyl result :-)

As somebody who helps out with the stewarding whenever I can get down to the stadium I can tell you that all of the stewards are volunteers but I do not know if any of the individuals have ever received any specific crowd control training. I personally haven't but I can't speak for others.

It is not a problem at the moment and I've never been put into a situation whereby I don't think I would cope but if crowds do grow as well as we would all love them to then you would maybe have to look at segregating fans (which in my opinion would be a real shame at this level of football) or getting some stewards in with real qualificatons.

In my role at Chester City I know that all of their stewards have NVQ's in crowd control as you would expect. It may be worth speaking to Chester's stewards and maybe inviting a few down to help out when the two club's are not at home on the same day.

I must stress though at this point that there is no problem with the current stewards in place at CQN and that the solutions I have suggested above would not be required for quite some time.

the addressing oftewards will not be needed i think we dont do violence its just a laugh and belive me if there is any they wont be coming again i will not accept tht as a supporter and friend
