True Nomads Supporters

Most of you know my personal connection to one of the clubs players. Since Administering this clubs Official Website and watching all of the South Wales games last season, I have become an ardent Nomads supporter and I can tell you for sure that I am a committed Nomads fan and I will be running this website next season, regardless of who plays for us.

Like most of you, I had never heard of Jim Hacket until he was appointed to be our Manager. As you probably know he has the highest coaching award that you can get, with a EUFA 'a' badge. There was much disappointment at Chester City when he left, after a highly successful spell as their youth coach. I agree that a good coach does not necessarily make a good manager. For example I spoke to Alan Morgan before he was interviewed for the job at Nomads. Whilst I was impressed with his enthusiasm and knew that he commanded the loyalty and respect of many of you, I was honestly left with reservations about his ability to make the step up to Management. He obviously agreed with me in the end, and said so himself.

I have no such reservations about Jim Hacket. Since he was appointed we have talked on a number of occasions at great length. I have found that Jim knows his football inside out. He is an excellent communicator at all levels, with the media, players, supporters, other coaches and managers, as well as a being a proven top class coach. Furthermore, he has very good connections in the game, which is necessary in Management. I now know why Bobby Hunter was so impressed with Jim, because I personally believe he has all the qualities of a first class Manager and I have no doubt that he is the best appointment that we could have possibly made.

Despite the players that have already left for other clubs or countries, those of you that remain, form the backbone of the superb squad that we had last season. Together, you can only get better than you were last season, both individually and as a squad. Furthermore you know each well both on and off the pitch, so keeping the great team spirit that you developed last season, will be easy. Jim is already lining up some really good additions to the squad and with his fresh ideas, things can only improve even more. Please chat among yourselves and decide soon whether you are going to stick together as a team and commit yourselves to the Nomads. The alternative is to join the free-for-all lottery of seeing which clubs, if any, come in for you individually.

I know that the Manager, I and the rest of the Fans, want see you all together in the Nomads shirts next season, but time is running out. Jim has to build a squad that is good enough to compete well in the WPL by the start of next season and I have no doubt that he can do it, personally. With your collective commitment, that team will be so much better.

The problem is that the players are dragging their heels over this
and not one player has committed to the cause for next season.
It must look bad when players are waiting to see what will develop
or even worse waiting to see if Bangor or another club will come in
for them.
Its seems to me that their loyalty lies with the previous
management not the Nomads and that's a worry.
This makes me think that it would be in the best interest of all if the players
are honest and put their hands up saying they want to go.
That way everyone knows where they stand.

The players know in their hearts that they are better off where they are, they're probably just worried after what happened at the start of last season, when it took until nearly December to get anywhere near a settled starting line up. Having met Jim Hackett, I believe him to be a man capable of making decisions and sticking to them. The current squad know that all they have to do is turn up for training at the end of June and the good work they put in last season will be recognise and rewarded. Most of the matches played by the settled team which featured in the latter half of last season are on DVD and are in Jim Hackett's suitcase. Don't expect him to have toom uch of a suntan when he gets back, but expect him to know some of our players' strengths and weknesses, and some of those of our opposition.

Wivey.........just a quick ?.....with you chatting to JIM, has he said that there are Contracts available for the lads who want to stay. As if there isn't , the lads will wait to see if anyone will come in for them. To keep the lads at the Quay, a Year or maybe a 2 year contract would possibly persuade them to stay........It would boost their confidence and stability, knowing that the club wants them to stay if the contracts were available. No doubt they would like to stay and be comitted to the club.

I no some of you will say they should,nt need a contract to stay,....but hey some lads travel a fair distance, to training and match days, and its the only income the get.......so to go training, and not play at the weekends means no DOSH...(i no they play 4 the love of football) means there out of pocket...............

Hi Doone. The Manager stated clearly, his desire to keep the Nomads players with the club, right from the day of his appointment. Obviously he is prepared to discuss contracts with each player individually, but he can't even begin that process until they express some interest in or willingness to play for the club.

Its a bit of a shame this. You'd built a half decent side and your crowds were heading towards respectability and then it all falls apart.

Not sure Nev Powell is going to find that everything in the Farrar Rd garden is as rosy as he thinks

Good news about Craig Hutchinson not going to Bangor, he been a loyal servant to Nomads and has never played for anyone else. He has made many appearances throughout the lean and the good times, so if he signs for next season, he will bring the experience and toughness we need in the WPL.

The news of his signing for Bangor came from Jim, who was obviously mis-informed. It illustrates the sort of problems that he has been facing in terms of getting accurate information about who's going, who's gone and who may stay, from last season.

Paul Smith did the proper thing and informed the club as soon as he had signed for Bangor, before telling anyone else. I hope that if any one else leaves or are planning to, they at least have the decency to do the same. It shows respect for the club and gives Jim a chance to plan. It was no co-incidence that Jims first signing was a new keeper.

Craig's possible move to Bangor was related to me by JH as well, so there's no problem withthe communication lines at our end. Maybe he hasn't been offered the deal he thought was on offer at Bangor, and as I believe his professional work (in education) is in this area it's a fair hike. League records show Hutch has played elsewhere too by the way, but he is still a diamond in my book - hard and brilliant!

It would be disappointing to lose him, and more so to lose Seargeant and Mutton. Somehow I can't see them going, they have too much to risk by upping sticks to a club apparently being rebuilt from the ground up, and don't forget that the 'spine' of the side Powell and Morgan arte supposedly ripping out was one which lost its last three matches and effectively blew their big chance. Managers have actually been sacked for less, not that was ever in any danger to Nev, but there were still some serious questions to be asked of the senior players, some of whom were found wanting when a switch to different tactics against teams like Llanelli, Cwmbran, Caersws and Rhyl migt have brought results. Limbert's last game for Nomads is not one which will linger long in his memory, nor those of the Nomads players at the game.

Doh! I meant the Nomads fans at the Rhyl game, though the other players there will want to erase the memory too!

Murrymint, all posters are are welcome on this board as long as they are not personally abusive, even pointless, mischievous ones like yours. I am glad to see that everyone else is too mature to respond to your posts.

OK Murraymint, thanks for your last post. I was concerned about your previous posts, because I thought the rumour mongering nature of them, that unsettles players who are not yet committed to anyone else, couldn't be coming from a true Nomads fan who wants the best for the club. I am am trying to do my best, as are the other fans, to persuade the players that are still uncommitted to stay with the club.

If the new Manager had been able to walk in and offer £350 a week contracts to the players to stay, virtually every one of them would be signed on. Craig Garside didn't move to Rhyl to better himself - if he did he is naive. He will certainly be getting more money, but is quite likely to spend a large part of the season on the bench. Ask Tommy Mutton, he had about 12 starts all season and even then was substituted well before the end, on one occasion after scoring 2 goals. He returned to Nomads for less money, because he likes playing football.

When you think about loyalty, remember it's you, me and the Chairman and his company DACS, that pays their wages. When we were crashing down the season before last, the Chairman dipped his hand in his own pocket to give Nev the money to keep us up. Managers and coaches are not the club, they are employees who spend other peoples money. I can understand players loyalty to them, but Nev has a limited budget and can only take so many. What sort of loyalty do you think he will have to the players that he leaves behind. He will use his knowledge about how they play when he comes up against them next season, to make sure they have a bad game. Its his job.

I don't think that Nev has taken the heart of Nomads. Lovell, Jellico, Williams and Pinch will match any defence in the WPL next season, especially when you add the new keeper. Cooke, Roche and Hutchinson are good enough for most WPL teams. Sergeant and Mutton may well go, but If your a true Nomads fan, the next time you see any of these guys, you will do your best to persuade them to stay, because with the guys that Jim can bring in, we still have the makings of a very good team. And this isn't about the past, it's about now and the future.
