SMITH FOLLOWS NEV TO BANGOR
Paul Smith, ever-present during Rhyl's treble winning season of 2003/4.
GOALKEEPER Paul Smith is the first player confirmed to have followed former Connah's Quay manager Neville Powell down the North Wales coast to Bangor City.
Smith started his career as a youth with the Nomads and was initially signed as cover by Rhyl in January 2002 before service at TNS, Flint Town United and Colwyn Bay.
He returned to Belle Vue as first-choice for the treble-winning season, but fell out of favour in 2004/5 and returned to Deeside in the summer of 2005. One of the most experienced stoppers in the league, he has clocked-up 188 Welsh Premier appearances over 10 seasons.
With a number of players yet to make up their minds where their future
lies it could be a long and interesting summer at the Nomads.

At least a couple more to Bangor, I would guess.

You never know we might get some of the players who left through lack of playing time, coming back now. Well here's hoping anyway.

Paul Smith was actually named as being a likely follower some weeks ago. Added to that he came in for some at times undeserved critisism last season. I would expect the nucleus of the side to remain together, they know as well as anyone that after a year or so together they are collectively better than the sum of their parts and that a move into an existing squad is more fraught with uncertainty than sticking together with the added strength they will gain from a show of loyalty to the club and to one another.

I wouldn't expect many more to go, only perhaps one or two players on the fringe of the starting line up as it was established towards the end of last season.

I understand that Limbert has also signed for City.

No Great loss there..........imo......

I am told there are maybe a couple more coming from Connahs Quay.

Dont know who, and for what its worth, I dont like this raiding business, its unfair on The Nomads and doesnt really help the league.

It would be better now for us to look outside the league for a couple of players - but I guess its up to Nev.

It is a recipe for unrest at Bangor. That's the funny thing about football teams - one in means one out, and that also means the players whose game revolves around the evictees are unsettled.

Les Davies looked lively in the late season game against Nomads at Y Traeth, where he scored. The goal, an over the shoulder hooked shot, is online at myspace/aryblaen.

Whilst the players who have left Nomads so far are in key positions, this will allow an influential influx of replacements conversant with, and able to convey the new manager's ideas onto the field of play. These will hopefully include a reliable keeper and an industrious midfielder who also knows how to defend. One of Limbo's 'specialities' was his dead ball kicking, but in Christian Seargeant we already have a more accurate specialist, and one whose tackling and interception skills are superior, and who is younger, more energetic and fitter. I could 'go on', but I'm probably already doing so!

Suffice to say that the most influential players in the core of last season's side are still at Nomads.

Spot on blaen.........we had a lot of under 21,s last season, with the few old heads........which sometimes is needed.........the youngens had a lot of experience,even if it was,nt in the WPL.......CUM,ON NOMANDS ..............if your GOOD enough your old enough.........PS.who else do you think will go from last season........

It looks to me like Nev is getting a little bubble of safe players
round him players he knows and can trust.
Its a bit of a disappointment that players are leaving but that's the
way its go's
Nev just needs to be careful of over doing it with to many players
from the Nomads.
If the season starts OK then it will be seen as a good thing but
then again if it doesnt it won't take a lot to start unrest.
As for the Nomads Jim will have a chance to bring in new players
in key positions that will be his choices.
I hope he can get some of the players from last season to stay
Bungle Sargent Dicko to name a few.
Good young lads from which to start a new side.

I heard Dickinson had moved to Australia.

Dicko has gone to Australia for a trial with a team in Sydney. Wish him all the best, did a lot of good work for the Nomads last season.

That would be a bold move for a likeable player. And he's on contract - (pound / Aussie dollar signs flash up in eyes!)

Craig Hutchinson looks a possible follower too. Better news is that a replacement goalkeeper has already been secured - Daniel Evans, formerly at Wrexham and highly rated by former Welsh international 'keeper and specialist goalkeeping coach Grenville Millington, who considers Daniel, 22, to be one of the best Welsh prospects to emerge for some time.

Mr Hackett leaves for a previously arranged family break tomorrow and the squad reconvenes for pre season training at the end of this month (Mehefin). All being well they will by then all be settled and raring to go, the best are still here and it looks promising already.

Having yet another player making his way to Bangor.
I've got to admit that I'm getting a little fed up when will it end.

Yes on a brighter note players are starting to come in to the club
and Jim has said 4 more should hopefully sign soon.
But i get the feeling that the backbone has been striped away and will
take some replacing.
I just hope that the stripping of players has run its course.
But next season games against Bangor will be like going back 12 months
in a time machine!! Just got to remember who i'm shouting at.

:-/I WATCHED MELIA FOR WINSFORD LAST SEASON IF HE GETS A RUN IN THE TEAM YOU WILL BE OK . THE LAD CAN GET GOALS FROM MIDFIELD OR UP FRONT. IF HE DONT WE WILL TAKE HIM BACK HE,S CLASS AT THIS LEVEL

I liked the look of Chris Melia and it would be good to see him get a run with someone to play off. He knows what he's got to do - be ready at the end of June with the right attitude and be fit and ready for action. The players we want will already be into their own fitness routines, thinking and looking ahead and not looking backwards.

Some good news. Jim emailed me just before leaving for his hols:-

Nicky Taylor will be coming down to pre season train with us with a view to signing. Nicky is 23 years old and was at Rochdale as a junior and is a left footed centre midfielder who lives in Eastham on the Wirral.

Stuart White, who was previously at Bangor City and Caernarfon will also be attending pre season with a view to signing. Stuart is 22 and is a striker/wide midfielder who I coached when with NW Coast U18's.

Wayne Morgan, who was released from Chester at the end of last season has also agreed to come down for pre season, with a view to signing. Wayne is 19 and can play either as a fullback or in midfield.
