Scotland A 28 - 26 Ireland A

Scotland A pulled off a great victory in Dublin on Saturday, with Donald Anderson winning it with the last kick of the game. Here's the match report according to RLI, followed by the two squads;

An agonising last few minutes to the game on Saturday saw Ireland go from one end of the field with a penalty to win the game right down to their own line to see the Scotland kicker slot over a penalty with the last kick of the game to win 28-26.

The miss from Ireland with less than two minutes to go led to a great set from Scotland and an infringement in the tackle resulted in the penalty kick opportunity that the Scots didn't turn away. A jubilant Scotland team celebrated a hard fought victory and Ireland looked at the missed chances.

Ireland senior head coach Andy Kelly came over to see the game and assess players for the upcoming World Cup and he certainly has some tough decisions to make with the quality he saw. Even missing nine players from their last outing due to injury, the Irish team played some excellent attacking rugby and the debutants slotted in well. Ireland started excellently with two scores early in the game and looked like they were going to run away with it. However Scotland chipped over a penalty then a try midway through the half made the scores level. Ireland were already rueing the inaccuracy with the boot. More scores were exchanged and in the second half Scotland started to open a gap only for Ireland to charge up field and score beside the posts to tie the game.

In the last ten both teams were starting to feel to energy levels drain from both the intense tackling and also the great summers day in ALSAA. The defensive lines were slowing and Scotland took advantage with some long breaks.

In the dying moments with the game tied Scotland conceded a penalty and it looked like Ireland would take the spoils but the kick was hooked wide and Scotland moved up the park, won the pentaly, and won the match.
