Lullington Girls travelled to Loughborough University on Saturday 12th July 2003 to participate in the ECB Lady Taverner’s National Finals. There were four regions represented in all; The North, The Midlands, The South East and The South West. There were four competitions taking place on the day, U13 Cup and Plate and U15 Cup and Plate. Lullington Girls from South Derbyshire (playing as the North) were competing in the U15 Cup.
The weather was glorious and the venue excellent! Each innings would be 8 overs long, starting on 200, losing 5 for a wicket and gaining 5 for each pair not getting out. Lullington played The Midlands first, which was a team from Gilmorton in Leicestershire and beat them convincingly by 40 runs. Lullington’s bowling was strong, with Nicola Hibberd taking a Hat Trick! They then played a team called The Mote from Kent (The South East). Lullington batted first but could only manage 232. The Mote then took the game away from them scoring an impressive 299. The last game was against Mid Glamorgan (The South West) and the girls knew they were playing for 2nd place and with that in mind put in an excellent all round performance to win comfortably.
They all received medals and a big pat on the back…finishing 2nd in the country isn’t bad after all! So a big well done to Elaine Beddard (Capt), Helen Dermody (Vice capt), Amanda Kirkland (wk), Gemma Rowe, Nicola Hibberd, Rachel Leech, Nicki Dawson, Beth Harris and Grace Stock.
Thanks go to the ECB and the Lady Taverner’s for organising the competition and to Glendon Dallard of the DCB for kindly umpiring for us.

Back, (l-r) Michelle Coates (manager), Nicky Dawson, Nicky Hibberd, Gemma Rowe, Rachael Leech.
Front (l-r) Beth Harris, Helen Dermody, Elaine Beddard, Grace Stock and Amanda Kirkland.
