On Sunday 6th July, a team of 8 girls from Lullington Park CC travelled up to Leeds Grammar School to represent Derbyshire in the North Regional Final of the ECB’s U15 Lady Taverner’s Competition. With many people getting lost on the way and the weather turning decidedly cold and grey the day didn’t start well, but the Cricket soon got everyone warmed up and we were in for a good day.
For this round of the competition each innings was 16 overs long, with the girls batting in pairs for 4 overs each. The score started on 200 runs, losing 5 for a wicket, but with a bonus of 5 runs for each pair that didn’t get out.
There were four teams there in all, clubs from, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cheshire. We played Lancashire first, winning easily by 70 runs. The second game against Cheshire was a little closer but our excellent bowling and fielding earned us victory. When it game to the last game, Derbyshire and Yorkshire hadn’t lost a match and the atmosphere became tense! Due to lack of time, the game was reduced to 8 overs per innings. Yorkshire batted first and scored 224. Derbyshire then batted with maturity, gaining 15 runs for not losing wickets. We did just enough to secure the win, scoring 227.
Lullington Girls will now represent the North in the National Final of the competition on Saturday 12th July at Loughborough University from 12:00pm.
