Saturday saw the first team short of 5 first teamers travel to bottom placed Marehay and saw them come away with a maximum draw points, 19. This has taken us 16 points clear of 3rd place and into the promotion places into the Premier League.
The firsts batted first and George Chapman, relishing his promotion to opener made 38 in a good opening stand with Dave Adams (43). When Chapman departed this only brought Tony Mudd to the crease who kept the runs flowing with a good 69. A total of 228-4 was a good one with the youngsters brought in to bat not having to go in.
Marehay were always struggling to get the required runs but kept playing their shots and Dave Mudd (4-52) and Colin Shaw (4-41) being the main beneficiaries. The last wicket could not be taken though and Marehay finished on 172-9.
The seconds batted first at home to Brailsford and like the first team the opening pair did very well. Richard Jones made a good 64 but it was 19 year old partner Adam Johnson who did the main damage with a brilliant maiden 110. That takes the total of league centuries by under 20’s to 3 for the season, not a bad statistic.
13 year old Brett Byrd made his debut with the new ball and bowled well but it was Graham Boden at the other end who bowled 14 overs, 3-25 to put Brailsford behind the rate. In the end 7 wickets were taken and Brailsford ended on 183-7 which was a good winning draw for the 2’s.
The thirds travelled to Clifton and struggled to contain the Ashbourne side who made 251-5. It didn’t get much better when the reply started. Only Cooper (don’t know if it is Mark or Ian) with 42 offered any resistance as we were bowled out for 122.
The fourths faced Aston at home and struggled all day being bowled out 106. Aston cruised past the score with the loss of only 5 wickets.
Sunday
Sunday saw the fourths travel to Quarndon and put up a better performance than Saturday scoring 185-8, Olly Baum making 33. In reply Quarndon made it look very easy to cruise past the score for the loss of only 1 wicket.
