28th June - Reports - 1sts back joint 2nd
By Andy - June 30 2003
The firsts climbed back into joint second place with a good 6 wicket win away at Selson. The seconds beat high flying Sawley by 7 wickets and lost to South Wingfield on Sunday in the cup. The thirds won by 5 wickets away at Nutbrook while the fourths just fell short by 25 runs at home to Quarndon. >
The firsts travelled to Selston to what is always a tricky fixture and with there overseas in great form after a hundred last week. Seleston's openers looked very good early putting on 60 for the first wickets although Dave Mudd bowled his longest and best spell of the season to eventually remove both of them to end with 2 wickets.

Will Chapman making his debut for the season then joined the attack and swung the ball late to take 3-39 and then Jonny Shales (2 wickets) and Andy Goodwin (3-6) then came on to take the last 5 wickets between them to leave Selston all out for 130.

Our reply was soon in trouble with Jonny Shales and Tony Mudd falling to leave us on 6-2. Andy Goodwin with 42 and Dave Adams with 20 battled hard to push the score up to 80 when Goodwin was out followed by Adams soon after. Dave Hartley and Steve Gough then came in and confidently saw the side home to win by 6 wickets taking us back into joint second place.

The seconds played host to Sawley who were top of the table coming into the game. Paul Dawson was once again in the wickets to take 3-45 as Sawley were restricted to 148-8. Richard Green with 40 set them on their way and it was left to older brother Danny to see the side home with 66 not out.

The thirds travelled to Nutbrook to face their seconds and came away with a good win. They bowled out Nutbrook for 159 after a very big collapse from them, Merv Timbrell doing most of the damage with 7-44. Tom Lenihan and Joe Eaton both scored 30's to see the m few only losing 5 wickets.

The fourths again managed to lose when it looked easier to win falling short when chasing 134 against Quarndon. Ted Shaw took 6-21 and then made 32 but no one else could stick around and they ended up 111 all out.

Sunday The seconds went back up to South Wingfield to replay their cup game after it was cancelled last week for some reason. After being in trouble early Ben Bridgen with 45 and Mark Johnson batting at 8 with 75 helped post a respectable 179.

With Merv Timbrell leaving the field with sun stroke and Mark Johnson leaving because of injury they were left with 9 and a half players. (Injured Alan Dawson subbed for the rest of the game) After a brave effort South Wingfield lost 7 wickets getting the total with a few overs spare.

Obviously not to be after last weeks events and losing players this week.
