The firsts won the toss for only the second time this season and bowled on what looked a very good wicket.
Skipper Dave Mudd struck early to remove Ault and Danny Gough joined in with the pair taking the first 6 wickets between them. Mudd ending with 3-25, Gough with 3-11.
Jonny Shales and Andy Goodwin were then introduced and wrapped up the last 4 wickets between them, Shales ending with 1 and Goodwin ending with 3-16. Elvaston ended up with 66 all out in 22 overs and as it was still very early tea was put back till an hour into our innings.
Dave Adams hit the first ball of the innings for 4 and the tone for the innings was set, Jonny Shales then took control hitting 2 fours in the 2nd over and we were well on our way. Shales was being very positive scoring runs freely and when Adams hit the winning boundary after 12 overs, Shales was unbeaten at the other end with 47 not out.
A very very good win for the firsts, which takes us to within 4 points of West Hallam, who are 2nd and only 30 points behind Shipley who are top, more importantly maybe we are now 15 points clear of Stavely who are 4th. see the league tables at the start of the week for updated ones.
The 2nds restricted Beadsall 1sts to 189-9, Paul Dawson back in the wickets with 6-46. They looked to be cruising to victory with Sean Green down from the firsts scoring 67 backed up by his brother Rich with 35 and John Goodwin with 36. With 6 needed and 3 wickets left all seemed to be fine but 2 wickets meant runs were still needed with the last pair (Colin Shaw and Graham Boden) at the crease but the winning run was lobed just the bowler to seal victory.
The thirds posted a reasonable 211-8 against Elvaston 3rds with Adam Poynton (56), Tom Lenihan (32) and David Stock (42 not out) being the main contributors.
In reply Elvaston alwasy looked comfortable putting on 80 for the first wicket but Geoff Leedham (3-58) and Ian Cooper took wickets to peg them back a little but could not stop them and they cantered home by 6 wickets and overs to spare.
The 4ths travelled to West Park to face Sawley and bowled the home side out for 125, the spin of Sam Eaton (4-35) and Ted Shaw (3-29) doing the damage. They strolled home losing only 5 wickets to take the 22 points.
Sunday
The firsts entertained Aston in the Silver Link cup and they set off how they finished on Saturday, Jonny Shales and Dave Adams started well and when Adams departed for teens, Tony Mudd joined and by the half way point we were on 110 for 2. As people came and went contributing runs here and there Shales stayed put looking in great form and brought up his first league hundred in due time. He wasn't finished there though and ended up with 133, with Dave Mudd and Steve Gough adding a little at the end to post a very good 269-7.
