Lullington Park provided another nail-biting finish as they fought back
superbly to tie their Derbyshire County League Division One game away to
Duffield on sweltering, hot day that provided a run feast.
The home side, after losing Hadfield cheaply to a George Chapman catch,
settled well, with Sims and Elliott building slowly but surely - by the
halfway stage of Duffield's 50 overs, they had taken the score 67, with
Danny Gough, having made the initial breakthrough bowling a tidy first spell
in which he conceded just four runs from seven overs.
But, the Aussie batsman began to open up, pushing Park onto the defensive as
he produced an array of powerful drives, and with Elliott also becoming more
forceful, the visitors were severely tested, but held good in the field,
finally splitting the partnership with the score on 203 as Jonny Shales took
a superb catch on the run to remove Sims, one short of his century, and give
the returning Gough his second wicket.
Elliot ended unbeaten on 96 as Duffield total 229-2, a total that Dave Adams
and Shales chased from the off, but both were dismissed by spinner Jordan
with 43 runs on the board, and as three more wickets, skipper Dave Mudd,
Dave Hartley and Ady Shales fell cheaply, Park looked to be facing an uphill
struggle.
Tony Mudd had other ideas, enjoying his best form with the bat in recent
weeks, with come glorious attacking shots that had the home side guarding
the boundaries, which he still managed to find on a regular basis as he made
a superb 59. Danny Green worked well with him, stacking up the runs, with a
flurry of boundaries, and a useful mix of quick singles as he made 42.
But, eagerness to grab the singles cost Green dearly as he became the first
of three to be run out, however Steve Gough remained cool in a tense
situation, and took charge with an unbeaten 36, as he and tailender Sean
Green took Park to 229-9 with a quickly run two on the final ball of the
match.
* Parks seconds held onto a draw in their Division 3S game
with Swarkestone - the visitors always held the upper hand, with Lancaster's
well struck 73 the backbone of their 256-8 as Park's attack toiled. Then,
Scott turned the screw with a five wicket haul, as the home side struggled,
apart from skipper Ryan Hetherington, unbeaten on 44, reaching 136-9 at the
close.
* Park's thirds enjoyed a two wicket success in their Division
5S game away to Sawley & Long Eaton Park. Mervyn Timbrell took 4-56, and
there were three wicket hauls for both Geoff Leedham and Alex Thompson as
the home side reached 199, a total that Park passed thanks to some stylish
batting from the Poynton brothers, Tom with 48 and Adam, 34, while Ian
Cooper chipped in with 30 and Timbrell complete a solid all-round
performance with a valuable 35.
* Park's fourths went down by four wickets away to Alvaston
and Boulton in Sunday's Division 7S match. Jason Bennett with an unbeaten 34
and 24 from Tom Poynton eased the visitors to 134-8, and though Joe Eaton,
who earlier had scored 16, took 3-42 and his brother Sam grabbed a couple of
wickets, it was not enough as their hosts reached 138-6.
