Three league wins out of three on Saturday with the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds all winning their games. Although the 1sts and 3rds only just.
The firsts managed to bowl Belper Meadows out for 100 on a fairly good batting track with Colin Shaw (2-19) bowling a brilliant spell on return to the first team, Daniel Gough (2-15), George Chapman (3-17) and Andy Goodwin (3-19) picking up the wickets.
After a good start with Dave Hartley and Jonny Shales (31) getting to 30 quite quickly, wickets began to fall at regular intervals but runs continued to flow at a steady rate and needing 13 with 2 wickets left the game was still in the balance. But Sean Green joined Andy Goodwin (32 not out) to steer the winning runs away and a victory by 2 wickets.
We have climbed back into 2nd place 24 points behind Shipley who are top and 12 points above Elvaston who are 3rd.
The seconds won their first game of the season away at Little Eaton to climb out the relegation zone, Richard Jones (74), Danny Green (34) and Rich Green (36) help post a very good 253-8. Paul Dawson (3-23), Liam Rollason and Ryan Hetherington all picked up wickets as Little Eaton were bowled out for 136.
The seconds report will appear here soon.
The thirds scraped home by 1 wicket at home to Castle Donnington. Castle Donnington were restricted to 161 with Rob Goodwin (5-46) doing the damage. It was then left to Merv Timbrell (46 not out) to take the team to victory with Geoff Leedham, the last man at the crease.
Sunday's Cup games
The 1sts had a bye in the first round of the Silver Link trophy due to finishing in the top 8 of division 1 last year. They play Aston on Trent who defeated Elvaston 2nds in the next round. The 2nds, 3rds and 4ths all started off their campaigns with unfortunately only the 2nds progressing to the next round.
The 2nds travelled to Little Eaton for the 2nd time in two days to face the bottom of the league side. Little Eaton were restricted to 167 for 7 with Colin Shaw, fresh from his brillaint spell for the 1sts on Saturday taking 3-26. They cruised past the required target losing only 3 wickets, Danny Green being unbeaten on 62 and Rich Jones making 37. A quick mention here for Under 12 Ben Young who was a last minute replacement and ended up on 6 not out seeing the team home.
The 3rds travelled to Aston and bowled them out for a reasonable 194, Dave Cotterill taking 3-38. Adam Poynton scored 68 in reply but they just finished short on 181 all out to lose by 13 runs.
The 4ths had a home game on the main ground and took advantage of the conditions to score 217-9. Laurence Burford scored 32 but it was 13 year old Luke Carthy who scored an unbeaten 101 who made the most contribution. Luke beats the record set by 14 year old David Stock last month who was the youngest centurian for the club. A great effort, congratulations to Luke. Unfortunately Marehay never looked like losing and cruised past the total only losing 3 wickets.
