Official Lullington Park CC
24th May - Official Reports
There was last ball heartbreak for Lullington Park's first eleven as Morton
Colliery snatched Derbyshire County League Division One victory by one
wicket in a rain affected match.

Park found runs at a premium as the home sides lively Aussie paceman Meagher
made good use of responsive track, biting into the early order to leave the
visitors struggling at 45-5 in a game reduced to 41 overs a side.

But Andrew Goodwin was at his defiant best, digging in and building a vital
innings that began to swing the balance. Not afraid to go for the big hit,
he hoisted three towering sixes, and another boundary as he made 42 valuable
runs in a productive stand with Dave Mudd before being trapped leg before.

Park's skipper carried on the good work, making 29, before becoming
Meagher's seventh victim, but with Steve Gough and Ady Shales each making
useful contributions, the visitors totalled 156 all out, but crucially had
not used their full allocation of overs.

And, in the final analysis, the bonus of those two added overs was enough to
see Morton take the points, even though they had lost opener Elks cheaply to
the lively seam of Mudd.

They had Rodgers taking charge with a fine innings of 83 as they scampered
towards victory, reaching 133-4 in 35 overs before Goodwin, the hero with
the bat, proved the master of spin as he had Rodgers reaching, and smartly
stumped by Dave Hartley.

Then, the introduction of 14 year old spinner Paul Dawson, making his first
team debut with George Chapman out through injury, added to the Morton woes,
as, like Goodwin, he collected two wickets cheaply.

The tension was high going into the final two overs. Morton were 153-8.
Goodwin piled on the pressure, bowling tidily, and not conceding a run. The
home side grabbed a run off the first ball of Mudd's final over, but then he
bowled Lowe, 154-9. Three dot balls, but then Holmes flashing wildly hoisted
the final ball high over point and just managed to scramble home to secure
the third run and victory.

* Park's seconds were held to Divison 3S draw by Spondon, the
visitors scoring 172 as Colin Shaw returned 4-49 and Adam Johnson 3-26.
Skipper John Goodwin settled things down after a shaky start, scoring 25,
and then Tom Chapman, who earlier had taken a couple of superb catches, was
unbeaten n 32, which with Liam Rollason's 15 not out and the kindly Mr
Extras who completed a half century took Park to 149-7.

* Park's thirds Division 5S game at Allestree was called off
due to a waterlogged pitch

* Park's fourths lost their Division 7S game at home to
Swarkestone by 11 runs. The visitors were restricted to 137 all out with
Park's youthful attack taking charge. Jason Bennett, Brett Byrd and Luke
Carthy all picked up a wicket apiece while Sam Eaton returned 3-32 and
comparative veteran Mervyn Timbrell 2-21. Eaton then made 33 and Byrd 30,
but Park fell short at 126 all out.
