Jonny Shales and Tony Mudd inspired a brilliant fightback by Lullington Park
in their Derbyshire County League Division One game last Sunday with local
rivals Ticknall - they rescued the home side with a hard hitting fifth
wicket stand of 97 after their side had been reduced to 27 for 4 as the
visitors turned the early screw.
Shales, at his aggressive best was driving hard, finding the boundary, and
running fluently with Mudd, soon turned the game. He went on to hammer 84
valuable runs while his partner completed a half century as they hoisted
Park our of danger and within sight of victory.
Steve Gough with a lively unbeaten 23 and Ady Shales with a rapid-fire dozen
completed the job, taking Park to a winning total of 191-6 with five overs
to spare.
Earlier, Rob Dumelow with a determined 75, had put Ticknall back on course,
after they had lost an early, cheap wicket, and with 34 from Harvey and
Coxon's 33, had steered his side to 186-9. Park's skipper Andy Goodwin
returned 4-40 and there were a couple of wickets apiece for both Danny Gough
and George Chapman.
That victory put Park second in the table, despite their loss, by two
wickets, the previous day away to the leaders Shipley Hall. Asked to bat
first on a rain affected track, the visitors had a grafting innings from
Dave Adams, making 40, together with Dave Hartley's 34 and 31 from Tony
Mudd, as the cornerstone of their total. Then, useful contributions from
Steve Gough, Richard Jones and Ady Shales pepped them to 180-7.
Shipley were struggling at 85-5, but their professional, Ahmed, brought in
as a bowler, proved the master of the big hit, with a flurry of boundaries,
either side of a couple of interuptions for more rain, as he cracked a match
winning 61 before, in failing light his skier was caught by Goodwin. Sean
Green, Danny Gough and George Chapman each bagged a couple of wickets, but
the home eased home at 182-8.
* Park's seconds drew both of their Division 3S matches. Rain
spoiled Saturday's encounter with Quarndon who were restricted to 163-8,
with teenagers Paul Dawson, 4-53, and Liam Rollason, 2-33, doing the damage,
while amid the interruptions, skipper John Goodwin top scored with 32 as
Park replied with 88-5.
Etwall made 173, despite Dawson spinning his way to 4-36, on Sunday, but
Park again fell short in a victory chase, after Ben Bridgen's 41 and Danny
Green's 23, Goodwin again tried to lift the run-rate with an hard hitting
unbeaten 39.
* Park's thirds had Rosehill Methodists struggling at 12-4 in
their Division 5C match, but the home side recovered to pile up 187-9, but
Joe Eaton with 37 and 36 from Dave Finch laid the foundations for a run
chase. Ian Cooper slammed a quick 38 and Sam Eaton made an unbeaten 19, but
Park had to settle for the draw at 157-8.
Adam Poynton slammed a maiden century in Sunday's home game with Etwall
seconds, as Park raced to 260-4. Dave Stock joined the run spree with a half
century, while Dave Cotterill added 45 and Joe Eaton 32. Three wickets
apiece for Michael Davies, Geoff Leedham and Eaton saw the visitors shot out
for 80.
* Park's fourth lost their Division 7C game away to Ticknall
by 38 runs. Dumelow with 37 and Sherratt 35 helped the home side to 163,
with Alex Thompson taking 4-62, and a couple of wickets each for Sam Eaton
and Jason Bennett, but in reply, only Laurence Burford and Oliver Baum, each
with 35, and 18 from Tom Poynton, provided any real resistance as Park
slipped to 125 all out.
