After the first double header of the season the way the season is going to pan out always looks a little clearer, and this year is no exception.
The firsts, after a comfortable win last week were looking like they were going to repeat the feat again as they had Shipley Hall (one of the title favourites) 85-5 defending 188. Shipley's overseas then proceeded to hit 60 in very quick time to take the game and an unlikely 27 points out of reach. One to go down in the "beaten by the pro" column. (keep a tally of this throughout the season)
Sunday saw fellow South Derbyshire side Ticknall visit the park with them looking for their first victory of the season. After watching them post 184 this total looked a long way off as we were 27-4 at one point. Jonny Shales with 84, Tony Mudd with 59, Steve Gough and Ady Shales turned the tide and brought us home with 7 overs and 4 wickets to spare. 2 wins out of 3, 2nd in the league, not a bad start. With captain Dave Mudd to come back in the coming weeks to strengthen batting and bowling the mid table target is looking well in reach.
The first team report might appear here soon.
The seconds had two losing draws over the weekend which could have ended in at least one victory. Saturday saw a rain affected game against Quarndon 2nds where we ended up with a lot less overs then them to get the runs, with one result the only outcome.
Saturdays seconds report against Quarndon is here.
Sunday saw them travel to Etwall and victory was a real possibility with 50 needed off the last 10 overs with John and Rob Goodwin still at the crease, until a run out ended hopes and a draw was settled for.
Sundays seconds report against Etwall here.
The thirds settled for a losing draw on Saturday but produced a brilliant performance on Sunday for their first victory of the season at home to Etwall. Adam Poynton with his maiden century helped by David Stock's 50 helped them reach 260 declared and then Etwall were dismissed for around 80 with Micheal Davies and Joe Eaton in the wickets.
