Official Lullington Park CC
29th April - Official Match Reports
Lullington Park began their Derbyshire County League Division One season in
convincing style as they defeated Marehay by 77 runs with a hard working
team performance.

But in the early stages, it was far from easy as the visiting attack, moving
the ball around, struck two early blows, justifying their decision to insert
Park, but a determined 65 run third wicket stand between Dave Adams and
Andrew Goodwin, relishing his responsibility as skipper in the absence of
the injured Dave Mudd, swung the game.

Finding the boundary with some powerful drives, and picking up quick
singles, they worked hard to dent the more than useful Marehay attack, but
both fell just as they looked well settled, Goodwin bowled by Vickerage for
33 and Adams trapped leg before by Longdon for 37.

George Chapman maintained the form, hitting anything loose to the boundary,
as he added 27 while Danny Green, having blasted a towering six, then a four
fell to a catch in the deep. Steve Gough chipped away with a useful 21 and
tailenders Ady Shales, enjoying the challenge of a first team debut with a
lively little cameo of an innings whacked five boundaries, one a big six, in
his 24 while Danny Gough was unbeaten on 14 as Park's innings closed at
196-9.

Marehay's response started steadily, but the introduction of Jonny Shales
split the openers in the seventh over, bowling Walters and soon afterwards
Caulton fell to Green's slip catch off the lively Gough. Shales accounted
for Colledge cheaply to leave the visitors at 43-3 but Butler and Vickerage
worked well, doubling the score with a solid stand.

The introduction of the spin attack of Chapman and Goodwin however quickly
had them in a tangle and brought about a dramatic collapse. Keeper Dave
Hartley picked up a couple of smart catches as Chapman returned 2-32 while
Goodwin enjoyed figures of 5-32, including the final Marehay wicket, to a
simple return catch, as the visitors were dismissed for 119.

* Parks seconds went down by two wickets in their Division 3S
game away to Brailsford, but not without a real fight. Asked to bat first
on a rain affected track, Park were in big trouble, slumping to 27-6 but
skipper John Goodwin was the man for the job, slamming eleven boundaries in
a defiant 55, which with 22 from Will Chapman and Colin Shaw's ten took the
visitors to 138. Brailsford also found runs at a premium, with Boden,
Chapman and Rob Goodwin all picking up a couple of cheap wickets, and at
67-7 the game was in the balance but big hitting Stubbs with 38, powered the
home side ahead.

* Park thirds came close to snatching victory in a high
scoring Division 5C game at home to Clifton seconds, but finally had to
settle for a draw. The visitors had scored freely early on, with half
centuries from Jones and Webster, but Geoff Leedham's accuracy pegged them
back, and then Adam Poynton, 4-26, and Ian Cooper, 3-38, held them to 207-8.
Dave Finch, solid as ever, opened with 40, and then Poynton's 38, together
lively contributions from Mark Cooper with 38 and an unbeaten 29 from Ian
Cooper took Park to 184-6 at the close.

* Park's fourths went down heavily, losing their Division 7S
game away to Aston by 126 runs. Teenage spinner Paul Dawson returned 5-48,
accounting for Aston's top scorer Ahmed on 67, and Dave Cotterill took 2-36
in a fine 14 over stint, but the home side reached 189-9. Only Joe Eaton,
with 16, reached double figures as Park slumped to 63 all out in reply.
