          TECH PHOENIX 27 - 45 DMP 3rd XV

The new era for TECH started in earnest on Saturday as the team played it's first ever 15 a side game when the welcomed Darlington Mowden Park 3rd XV to Grayfields for a friendly in preparation for the coming Teesside League season. The visitors, who have been highly successful over the past few years in both league and cup competitions fielded a squad made up of a mix of young and experienced players against a newly formed Phoenix side still getting to know each others strengths and weaknesses.

This game was well contested throughout with the home side competing well at all phases, especially the scrum. The visitors speedy, well drilled back line though had the edge throughout as in defence they missed very few tackles whilst in attack they possessed good pace and handling skills.
Though DMP had an edge the home backs regularly asked questions of them as looked to make good use of the possession they were given.

The game was played in excellent spirit with both sides running the ball as often as possible. Their enterprise saw the spectators present treated to a total of 12 tries being scored, 5 by the home side to 7 by the visitors. The honour of scoring the first try for the Phoenix fittingly fell to Mick INGHAM whose efforts have been so instrumental in the formation of the side.
After this pleasing first run out the lads will now look forward to their opening home league game against Thirsk on 6th September 2014. There were plenty of positives to take from this first run out as well as plenty things to work on between now and their first competitive game but with the
spirit all the players are displaying they can move forward with confidence.

Saturday 6th September 2014 should prove a memmorable day in the history of TECH as they return to playing the game. To celebrate this important event the Club are organising a Reunion Day and it is hoped as many old players and members together with families and friends of the current squad turn out to support the efforts of the side.
