Redcar took the field with stand off Gareth Foreman unable to kick due to a thigh strain picked up on Thursday. They also lost Paul Williams after 20 minutes who had to be stretchered off with a neck injury. Any hope of victory seemed to go when captain Matt Hemingway was unable to continue after half time having injured his shoulder.
York scored the only try of the game in the first half through centre Nathan McBride which was converted by stand off Ben Quick who later added two penaltys.
The referee was quick to use his full quota of cards and sent off Martyn Challenor for an alledged late tackle, a York player saw yellow for stamping as did Jonny Ryan for a push.
York who had most of the possession throughout the game were unable to cross the Redcar line, the seasiders defence being the only bright note on a poor day.
