Ilkley 7 Sandal 34
Spirits still still high as season ends with a defeat to Sandal. Much is to be admired at the camaraderie and team spirit displayed. Once again 20 minutes with 14 men and a catalogue of mistakes at crucial moments cost the Dalesmen dear. Sandal end up disappointed as their promotion hopes evaporate despite the victory.
Keighley 12 Ilkley 17
Combine a smattering of experience with a liberal dose of youth and the Dalesmen at last come up with a win at Keighley. A well contested match in which fortunes swung both ways made an excellent start to the Easter festivities. The first XV debuts of a number of young Ilkley players bodes well for the future and is testimony to the quality of coaching in the Junior and Youth section at Stacks Field.
Pontefract 59 Ilkley 10
Another big defeat for the Dalesmen in penultimate match in North Two East demonstrates the challenges to be faced next season in the same league. Pontefract put on a display of powerful running rugby played at pace and with confidence. In the end, and despite threatening a number of scores only to be punished from deep, the Dalesmen could reasonably put most of the scores conceded down to elementary mistakes. These mistakes happen because losing saps confidence from the very soul of the team. Consolation.....well that wonderful Pontefract pie went down well - both helpings! Where have all the second teams gone?????? Players dinner Thursday 23rd April.
Ilkley 7 Penrith 67
Ilkley's blues continue but mood in the club is upbeat in contrast to erroneous and misleading headline in the Gazette... Club wins award from RFU for Ladies rugby... Players dinner Thursday 23rd April. .....Members will be saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Peter Barker, a star of the '70's
Old Crossleyans 60 Ilkley 19
Crocs put on super show to stun Dalesmen into silence. Sundays rugby union games, Ilkley vs Sheffield U/14’S and Ilkley Ladies vs Loughboro, photographs have now been uploaded to site. Please use the link to view photo’s www.ruggerpix.com Enter the site and then go to Photographs and then 2008-2009 Events.
Ilkley 9 Gateshead 32
Valiant Dalesmen outgunned by Gateshead as last ten minutes see them concede two tries. More honours in Junior section. Well done Ryan Grange! ..more good success at under 13's,Ben Brearley, son of cricket legend Jonathan, played for West Yorkshire under 13's last weekend.
Ilkley Carlisle
Ilkley welcomed the visitor’s Carlisle for the re-arranged league fixture cancelled earlier in the year due the snowy and icy weather conditions. This Saturday however was a good day to play rugby with the conditions being firm and dry. Carlisle are currently mid table having won and lost almost the same number of fixtures so were keen to increase their number of wins. Ilkley started well and with a lot of confidence.
Morpeth 30 Ilkley 16
Dalesmen fall victim to mistakes and penalties but come out of this encounter with more than a glimmer of light as coach Pratt rings the changes. Peter Shanks kicks three goals and a conversion of Stuart Brewer's well-deserved try to send them home down the now very familiar A1 with some renewed optimism.
Ilkley 5, Durham City 23
No relief for Dalesmen as basement clash leaves them 3 points adrift............................ Juniors provide the highlights this season.
