Morpeth match off. Christmas Draw now Sun 3rd Jan
The away fixture with Morpeth was a victim of the weather. The pitch was clear of snow but froze hard on Friday night rendering it unplayable. the match will now take place on Saturday 6th February 2010. The news came as something of a bonus for the Dalesmen as prop Jonathan Hutchinson was tying the knot with his bride, the lovely Kirsten. The couple were married at Burley in Wharfedale Parish church and held their reception at Ilkley's Winter Gardens. A number of senior players were guests at the ceremony. Jonathan has been a stalwart of the Ilkley side for many years since moving to the area to study at Bradford University. Kirsten, a netball player of no mean ability, has been a loyal follower of the team along with other wives and girlfriends of the players. Also victim of the weather was the eagerly awaited clash between Ilkley colts and Moortown, a league fixture of some importance. With the match also went the traditional grand Christmas Draw. This will now be held on Sunday 3rd January 2010 when the Moortown fixture will be played and Yarnbury visit the club with their under 16's, under 14's and under 13's.
Dalesmen fail to please
As the saying goes, a pessimist is never disappointed. On the basis of the last season and a half there must have some in the sizeable crowd but the mood on the touchline before this clash of old rivals was one of optimism. Brods have had a hard time recently losing their last three fixtures. Surely it was time for Ilkley to produce another rabbit from their hat. pics at www.ruggerpix.com
Dalesmen miss golden opportunity
Dalesmen miss golden opportunity as Gateshead's boat comes in
Disappointment for Dalesmen at Durham
Perchance he for whom this bell tolls may be so ill, as that he knows not it tolls for him; and perchance I may think myself so much better than I am, as that they who are about me, and see my state, may have caused it to toll for me, and I know not that. This lovely city's cathedral bells rang out a welcome for the travelling Yorkshiremen to a ground where they had garnered their solitary victory in last season's campaign. Injuries and unavailabilities had shorn the side of prop John Cooksey and back rows Charlie Cudworth and Iain McKenzie. This was an opportunity for the promising youngsters Chris Chapman and Joe Spencer to step up to the plate. The play-anywhere human dynamo Jonny Shanks deputised at hooker giving the pack a distinctly different and lightweight look to it.
The agony of inches has measure on Dalesmen
In a full-blooded, no holds barred match the Dalesmen miss out on a second league victory by inches as a penalty to win the match in the final moments of the game drifts agonisingly past the far post. Driffield return home with a hard-won two points but oh! how close they came to going home with nothing!
At last, a win! It's been a long time coming.
Dalesmen shock Darlington on their own patch with a display of courage, conviction and sheer determination to shake the losing monkey off their backs. Skipper Stuart Vincent bags two tries and the inspirational Hamish Pratt one. Peter Shanks adds 17 points with the boot. Man of the match Nick Herron took the players' plaudits but the whole team takes the credits from the touchline. pics at www.ruggerpix.com
Dalesmen slip to defeat in second half
Three all at half time and every chance of a first home win, Carlisle spoil the party with a textbook try and another from a lost lineout. Disappointment all round. Pics at www.ruggerpix.com
Band of brothers' super show
Dalesmen have no answer to powerful Billingham backs. Hyndman and Evans brothers play pivotal role in demolition job. At least the sun shone and there were moments when Ilkley could have scored. pics now @ www.ruggerpix.com
A far better display ends in disappointment
Sandal take advantage of a penalty count heavily in their favour. Three goals is the difference as they run out 19 - 10 winners. Did anyone see the green shoots?
From optimism to another heavy defeat in 3/4 hour
Holding a 13 - 3 lead five minutes before half time, Ilkley concede a try from deep. The floodgates opened in the seccond half. Four tries were scored from positions in which the visitors could easily have scored themselves, the others from sheer pace. pics @ www.ruggerpix.com
