Brear 96 Stapleford smash 248 but rain ends proceedings
By Adam Harchuk - July 27 2003
Stapleford won the toss and decided to bat on a poor pitch at West Hallam. 27 points were required against the leagues bottom side. With Belper Meadows breathing down our necks, nothing more than a win was required ... >
Andy Brear, somewhat out of touch the last few weeks smashed 96 off 97 balls. It was a fine knock on a pitch that was dangerous at times. In his innings he struck 10 fours and a six until he gave his wicket away, hitting a short ball from Siddons straight to cover. He was ably supported by Mark Fletcher who hit a patient 52 off 74 balls. The pair put on 146 for the 2nd wicket and this partnership was the platfrom for the middle order to press on for 250 and declare. Paul Fletcher, Adam Harchuk and Jim Wright all hit bright and breezy knocks to enable Stapleford to declare at 248-8. Rob Golding bowled an admirable second spell in which he claimed 5 wickets. Figures of 11-2-48-5 was a class above any of the West Hallam bowlers. In reply West Hallam reached a painful 19-1 from 15 overs. The rain arrived and it promtly ended the match. Stapleford gaining 10 points and West Hallam 9.
