Harchuk 54* and 3-11 Stabbo hammer Belper Ameteurs by 124 runs
By Adam Harchuk - June 16 2003
On an absolute scorcher of a day, a good days cricket was surely on the cards. Stapleford skipper Andy Brear won the toss and elected to bat to the relief of all the lads at not having to field in the harsh heat! >
On this hot day, Stapleford openers Brear and Walker made their way to the crease. They were greeted by the opening pair of Richard Deeming and Simon Buzzard. With the score on just 19 in the 6th over, trouble set in as Ian Walker nicked behind to Bradder behind the stumps off the bowling of Buzzard for 9, then very next ball Jim Wright also edged behind to Bradder, but doubts were cast on whether the ball actually carried, but was given out. So at 19-2 much depended on Andy Brear who was joined at the crease by Paul Fletcher. Both players were finding some good form until Paul Fletcher found Nightingale off the bowling of Spencer for 25 having hit 4 fours. Harchuk came in to join Andy Brear, but both players found it hard to get Paul Spencer and particularly Jamie Deeming who bowled very well and with Brear on 59, Deeming got his reward as he got the ball to lift and find the edge of Brears bat, but had Bradder to thank behind the stumps who took a fine one handed catch to his right. Brear had struck 9 fours in his knock. Harrison came in to join the watchful Harchuk, and both batsman were keen to see off Jamie Deeming (11-0-25-1) and Paul Spencer (13-1-45-1) and when both were taken off, the acceleration seriously kicked in as Harrison and particularly Harchuk seriously layed into the change bowlers Richard Deeming, Christan Durcan and Spendlove. The last 6 overs went for 64. In the last over Harrison edged to Bradder to give him his 4th catch for 26 after putting on 82 with Adam Harchuk who had finished very explosivly on 54. His knock contained 6 fours and 2 big sixes to give Stapleford 195-5 off their 46 overs which was a good effort on a pitch certainly favouring the bowlers. Simon Buzzard finished with 3-41 but was a little expensive as these figures were off just 7 overs.
After tea Belper started their reply in bad fashion.Mark Cliff bowled Bryant for 9 in the 4th over and from then on it was just a constant flow of wickets as all the Belper batsman just couldnt find any answers to the bowling of the awesome Paul Fletcher. He dismissed Pip Nightingale, Gary Bradder, Paul Spenser, Adam Burnham, Jamie Deeming and Spendlove all for single figure scores as he finished up with 14-3-25-6. It was a great spell and he was well supported by Cliff (7-4-11-1) and Adam Harchuk who dismissed David Nightingale, Christan Durcan and the last wicket of Simon Buzzard to finish with 7.5-2-11-3. Richard Deeming hit some lusty blows at the end to finish unbeaten with 17, joined top scorer with extras as Ameteurs were capitulated to 71 all out. Staplefords catching must get a mention as 7 catches were held. Ian Brackenbury took 2 in the covers, Paul Fletcher at point, Adam Harchuk in the gully, Mark Cliff at short leg and 2 outstanding slip catches by Andy Brear and Ian Walker summed up what a good day Stapleford had. They had won by 124 runs

Final Result
Stapleford Town (27) 195-5 (Brear 59, Harchuk 54*, Buzzard 3-41) beat Belper Amateurs (2) 71 all out (P Fletcher 6-25, Harchuk 3-11) by 124 runs

Meanwhile the 2nds endured another disappointment as they lost out to Nutbrook by 26 runs. In reply to 165-8, skipper Steve Morley was left high and dry on 52* as he ran out of partners looking to take Stapleford to victory, as the 2s were all out for 139.
