After Saturdays win, Stapleford Town 1st XI gained 8 points on their locals Shipley after they only managed a winning draw at Marehay. With the gap now 20 points, this weekend could turn out in Staplefords favour, as 3rd place Clowne travel to 1st place Shipley and Stapleford travel to lowly Codnor. Clowne themselves bowled Codnor out for 48 last week so hopefully Stapleford can take 27 off Codnor and Clowne can take some points off Shipley. This of course would be the ideal scenario but in cricket anything can happen. Stapleford are likely to field the same eleven that took the field against Butterley with the possible exception of Mark Cliff returning at the expense of injured Richard Swain who will help the 2nds out. After getting to 53 last week Andy Brear will be looking to get closer to the 100 mark to fire Stapleford to a very good score. Ian Walker will be looking to put last weeks duck behind him, plus Mark Fletcher is due a big score along with Adam Harchuk, so with the top 4 (exception of Brear) all due some runs, a big score at Codnor could well be on the horizon. With Mark Cliff returning, Adam Harchuk could be relagated to 1st change in the bowling ranks despite his 5 for last week, but Mark would quite rightly retain the spot he has done well in so far this season. Sundays cup game for Stapleford is against lower league opposition in Langley Mill. Stapleford welcome back Steve "the king" Halford back into their lineup, but its unclear who he will force out of the side. Despite Langley Mills poor start to the season, underestimating them would be foolish. Stapleford will also be encouraged to put on a good show at Langley Mill as Sting In The Tail publisher Alan Rowley will be watching with his camera and no doubt a pint of best in his hand, so lets all hope we put on a good show for the camera.
The 2nd team take on Darley Abbey at home. New captain Steve Morley will be looking to chalk up a win in his 1st match in charge. He has plenty of bowling resorces in the agesless Roy Foster, Richard Swain, his Dad Brian, not forgetting himself after a fine spell of 5-7 on Sunday. Joining Steve in the 2nds is his brother Brian who at that level is an outstanding keeper and very good opening batsman. It would appear that the batting is the primary concern but under Steves leadership, lets hope they will do just enough to beat Darley Abbey. A win would certainly send them flying up the division as things in 7C appear to be quite close at present. The same goes for Sunday where they could have the added luxary of a 1st teamer dropping down due to the inclusion of Steve Halford in the 1sts.
