Brear smashes 164 in winning draw for Stabbo
By Adam Harchuk - May 23 2003
Andy Brears lone effort of 164* out of 233-4 at Tibshelf not only earns his side a winning draw, but a place in the Stapleford record books .... >
Stapleford opted to bat on a "suspect" looking track at Tibshelf. Brear and Walker looked watchful against the attack of Matthews and Else, but it was slow bowler Kemp who broke through bowling Walker for 16. Wright went in and after a few nice shots played a loose drive and was caught at point for 10. Harchuk joined Brear which turned out to be the best stand of the match. Brear continued to smash the attack to pieces, but an out of sorts Harchuk hung in there. Harchuk had reached 21 when he gave Else the charge and was out to a smart stumping by Kitchen. In the closing overs, Brear continued to hit the ball about, aided by Halford and Cliff. Brear finished on an awesome 164, breaking ex team mate Trevor Hesseys club record 162 made vs Duffield.
In Tibshelfs reply Harchuk removed Mark Beards leg stump straight away and Mark Cliff bagged 3 quick wickets, but Shane Matthews stood firm. Spinner Halford came on and took 3-43 bamboozling the lower order. Matthews went to a fine 50, outshining his team mates. When Matthews (54) and Flint were both dismissed by Brackenbury, only 1 wicket remained but the final pair batted through the final overs to secure a draw for the home team. Stapleford had to mark this one down as one that got away because a win should have been achieved. In the end Stapleford gained 19 points and Tibby 5 points.

Final Result
Tibshelf (5) 122-9 (Matthews 54, S Halford 3-43, Cliff 3-13) drew with Stapleford Town (19) 233-4 (Brear 164*)
