Shipley Hall CC McDonough inspires Shipley to victory
By Adam Harchuk - May 23 2003
Stapleford suffer their 1st loss of the season to local rivals Shipley as Graham McDonough rips through the Stapleford order by taking 6-20 bowling Stapleford out for a paltry 86. With the rain approaching, Matt Abbott secured victory with some hard hitting ... >
On a wet day at The Rec, Stapleford lost the toss and were put in on a really damp surface. Thoughts of emulating last weeks effort were soon put to bed as Anders Carrington removed Andy Brears off stump with the opener only contributing 4. Carrington then removed Mark Fletcher, in a very similar way to Brears dismissal for just 2, then added a 3rd shortly after as Harchuk drove into the hands of gully for just a single as North took a fine catch. So at 11-3, thoughts of an early finish were certainly on the cards but some stern resistance from old stager Jim Wright and wicket keeper Brian Morley took Stapleford past 50. By this time McDonough was into the attack and he sparked a huge Stapleford collapse by getting Brian Morley caught down the legside, but reports had said the ball had missed the bat by a fair amount of distance. Morley contributing 12. The middle and lower order was then exposed to McDonoughs swing and accuracy as it completely folded with little resistance. Jim Wright finally went 9th out for 34, but the damage had been done with McDonough taking 6-20 and Carrington 3-13. 86 all out was a poor effort.
Shipley began their reply in nervy fashion as Anders Carrington's day took a turn for the worst being given LBW to Mark Cliff, with the ball appearing to be missing leg stump. Rimmington followed shortly caught at point of Cliff, but the match winning stand came between Graham McDonough and Matt Abbott. With the rain coming, both players were looking for some attacking play. With 15 left to win, Harchuk nipped one back at McDonough and bowled him leg stump, but this wicket was somewhat too little too late as Matt Abbott dished out some lusty blows finishing unbeaten on 34, giving Shipley their 1st ever victory at The Rec by 7 wickets.

Final Result
Stapleford Town (1) 86 all out (Wright 34, Carrington 3-13, G McDonough 6-20) lost to Shipley Hall (22) 87-3 (Abbott 34*) by 7 wickets
