So the 1sts arrived at Belper in good spirits looking to increase the pressure on Shipley, and also gain a nice little lead over their Belper rivals. Stapleford won the toss and elected to field, a tactic which hasnt been used this season, due to the skipper Brears intent of going for the full 27. Openers Paul Bakel and Dave Jones opened for Belper in the light drizzle. This drizzle seemed to liven up the Belper wicket and conditions were certainly favouring the bowling side. Paul Fletcher opened the bowling with Mark Cliff and both kept things tight. But after looking tight in defence, it was Bakel who was first to fall when he only half played at an inswinger from Paul Fletcher, which wrapped the Belper left hander quite high on the pad and was adjudged LBW by Mick Glenn the umpire for just a single. That bought Pascual to the crease and after looking under pressure from some fine bowling from Fletcher, cut loose with a couple of drives over the top of mid off. Mark Cliff was then replaced by Harchuk. Mark had bowled 5-2-6-0 but was feeling the pressure of one to many on the Thursday night, was pulled out of the attack by Brear. Harchuk started with a few loose deliveries, but found his line with a beauty to Pascual which swung away and found the edge, but Parkinson the keeper and Brear at 1st slip watched the ball go annoyingly straight between them. There was only time for one more over when the rains came and that was where it ended. Tea was taken, but everyone new that the rain was there to stay, so play was abandoned with Belper on 26-1. A big disappointment as top of the league Shipley wrapped up a convincing win at Selston to extend their lead at the top to 28 points.
