Duffield CC Duffield U-15's lose out to Darley Abbey U-15's
By Mike Poyner - June 9 2003
Having to play two games in two days left the Duffield U-15's tired, and this showed as they lost for the second time against near neighbours Darley Abbey. >
After winning the toss Duffield when to the field in search of early wickets. Tom Howell and Ian Hall opening the batting for Darley abbey had other plans though. Poyner and Williams started to tough task of sending them packing but this didnt happen as Howell and Hall set about putting runs on the board. Poyner and Williams failed to take the wickets that were needed and both finished of with no wickets for 14 runs after their spells ended. It wasnt until Ian Hall was sent packing did Duffield have a break through. Yet they still could not get Howell out. But then, he was caught at cover by Mike Poyner but a no-ball was called and the frustation showed on the Duffield faces. He was finally run out after a suicidal effort failed in vain. At the end of the innings after 35 from Howell, Darley Abbey finished on 113 leaving Duffield wondering what had happened to the performance and desire they had showed against Rolls Royce the day before. Could a repeat of yesterday be on the cards? A spiriting batting performance maybe?

Bygraves and Williams strolled out to the middle looking to get runs on the board quickly. They were held back however by the short pace of Ian Hall which hindered the attack. Williams was dispatched quickly and Sam Hamilton soon after but not before he had hit some good strokes over the rope. Poyner came hoping to repeat yesterdays 28 not out. But his consistantcy let him down and he was sent packing after only 5 balls, stumped. After this the Duffield batsmen not much chance of getting the total unless Bygraves could hit 50 but it wasnt to be. He was out for 33 a good innings again from the Duffield skipper. Duffield almost collapsed after that but managed to fight to the end but it was all in vain as Darley Abbey won the match after Duffield failed to reach the target of 114. Another game another defeat for Saunders men.

Duffield will be looking to break their duck against Shipley Hall this coming week.
